Another episode of our famous “Interview fail” series.

Interviewer: Welcome Mitch to IMFS courier services, my name is Sally. Thanks for arriving on time.

Mitch: Hi, thanks for meeting me.

Interviewer: So, let me tell you a little bit about what we do at IMFS. We are the number one courier service in the local area, and offer fast and efficient services to a large range of clients across the region.

Mitch: Sounds amazing!

Interviewer: Great! So, you have had experience delivering leaflets in the past. But have you ever had to deliver important packages quickly on your bike before?

Mitch: I can’t ride a bike, so I’ve always delivered packages on foot. It doesn’t take that long and my main courier roles have been delivering things like medicines to older ladies and picking up my grandmother’s post from the post office.

Interviewer: Ah, did you not see that this particular role requires a bike, Mitch? We stated it clearly on the job description.

Mitch: I did see that – but I’m a fast walker and my legs have never let me down before so I thought I’d give it a go anyway!

Interviewer: I like your enthusiasm Mitch, but we cover a 100-mile radius. There’s no way you would be able to even deliver one package in that time. Our courier service is known for its speed. Can you not ride a bike?

Mitch: No, I’ve never been able to ride a bike. But maybe you could guys could teach me?

Interviewer: I’m sorry Mitch, we don’t have the resources to teach you. Maybe you could go away and learn, and in a few months time give us a call. We may not have an opening then, but we could try to find you something.

Mitch: Nooooooooo! I can’t believe it. I thought I was perfect for this job. I pick up everyone’s post on my street and deliver it stress-free. Please will you reconsider me?

Interviewer: I’m afraid there’s no way I can employ someone who can’t ride a bike. I’m so sorry.

Mitch: That’s unbelievable!! (he’s angry now, and stands up abruptly before turning over the chair he was sat on and storming out of the room). This is a sham! I was set up! You will be sorry, you’ll all be sorry!!!
