Group Financial Controller Location: Chelmsford, Essex – office-based role Salary: £75,000 – 85,000 per annum I'm excited to be working with an established manufacturing business. They are looking for an experienced Group Financial Controller to join their senior management team. This is a hands-on leadership role with a strong team focus. Offering broad exposure across financial control, operational finance, reporting, cash flow management, and business partnering. Reporting directly to the Group Finance Director, you’ll ideally have experience within a manufacturing, engineering, or stock-led environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting financial performance, strengthening controls, and driving continuous improvement across the finance function. Key Responsibilities • Oversee day-to-day finance operations including sales ledger, purchase ledger, general ledger, and banking activities, • Lead monthly management accounts preparation, reconciliations, and financial analysis, • Manage cash flow forecasting and support working capital optimisation, • Oversee payroll, pensions, and employee benefits processes, • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, VAT regulations, and internal controls, • Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities, • Partner with operational and commercial teams to provide financial insight and performance analysis, • Support procurement and stock-related financial processes, • Drive process improvement across finance systems, controls, and reporting, • Prepare information for audit and ensure accurate financial record keeping, • Attend operational meetings and provide financial support to senior stakeholders, • Lead, mentor and develop a small finance team. Candidate Profile The successful candidate will be an experienced finance professional with strong technical accounting knowledge and the ability to operate effectively within a growing operational business. You will demonstrate: • Professional accountancy qualification (ACCA, CIMA or equivalent), • Previous experience in a Financial Controller or senior finance role, • Strong management accounting and financial control experience, • Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills, • Strong Excel and reporting capability, • Ability to work collaboratively across finance, operations, and commercial teams, • A proactive, hands-on, and solutions-focused approach The Opportunity This role offers the opportunity to join a collaborative and ambitious business where finance plays a central role in operational and strategic decision-making.
