Bar Manager

Leagrave & Limbury Royal British Legion Club – Marsh Road, Luton

An exciting opportunity to lead, grow and make a real difference in our community.

Are you a passionate, personable and self-motivated hospitality professional who thrives on a challenge? Do you have the experience, enthusiasm and vision to take a well-established community club to the next level?

Leagrave & Limbury Royal British Legion Club is seeking an experienced and ambitious Bar Manager to lead the day-to-day running of our bar, increase engagement with the local community and drive an exciting new chapter in the club’s development.

This is more than a bar management role. It is an opportunity to shape the future of an established local club, attract new customers and members, develop fresh opportunities and create a vibrant, welcoming environment for everyone.

We are looking for someone who can combine excellent operational management with commercial drive, fresh ideas and the personality to bring people together.

The Role

Working closely with the club committee, you will take responsibility for the effective management and daily operation of the bar while playing a leading role in developing the club into a busier, more commercially successful and community-focused venue.

You will bring strong leadership, a hands-on approach and the confidence to take ownership, identify opportunities and turn ideas into measurable results.

A key objective will be to achieve a 20% increase in membership and overall club usage, supported by a clear plan for growth, community engagement and commercial development.

Key Responsibilities

Bar & Operational Management

  • Take responsibility for the day-to-day running of all bar operations, ensuring high standards of service, cleanliness and professionalism.
  • Manage stock control, ordering, pricing, cash handling and financial reporting in line with agreed procedures.
  • Recruit, lead, motivate and manage bar staff, where applicable.
  • Ensure compliance with licensing requirements, health and safety, food safety where applicable, and responsible alcohol service.
  • Maintain efficient operating procedures and deliver an excellent customer experience.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, increase sales and strengthen the overall performance of the bar.

Community Engagement & Growth

  • Develop and deliver initiatives to attract new customers, members, groups and community organisations.
  • Build relationships with local businesses, charities, sports groups and community partners.
  • Introduce fresh ideas, events, promotions and activities to increase footfall and make the club a destination for the local community.
  • Create a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere that encourages repeat visits, participation and long-term membership.
  • Drive progress towards a 20% increase in membership and overall club usage, with clear actions and measurable outcomes.
  • Identify new revenue streams and opportunities to maximise the use of the club’s facilities.

Working with the Committee

  • Work collaboratively with the club committee to agree priorities, objectives and development plans.
  • Bring forward practical ideas and proposals to improve the club’s commercial performance, facilities and reputation.
  • Support the planning and delivery of events, entertainment and wider club activities.
  • Provide regular updates on performance, income, expenditure, membership growth and community engagement.
  • Take ownership of agreed objectives and deliver results, working within the responsibilities and authority agreed with the committee.

About You

You will have a proven track record in bar or hospitality management, with the leadership, commercial awareness and drive to deliver results. Experience running a successful pub, members’ club, social club or similar venue is essential.

We are looking for a confident, proactive manager who can lead from the front, grow revenue, attract new customers and create a thriving, welcoming venue.

You will be someone who is:

  • Experienced and capable: Confident managing bar operations, people, stock, costs and customer service.
  • Commercially driven: Focused on increasing revenue, controlling expenditure and improving performance.
  • A natural leader: Able to motivate staff, set standards and lead by example.
  • Community focused: Skilled at building relationships, engaging new audiences and bringing people together.
  • Proactive and ambitious: Full of ideas, prepared to take initiative and determined to achieve results.
  • Personable and approachable: Able to build rapport with customers, members, staff and community partners.
  • Self-motivated and resilient: Ready to take on a challenge, overcome obstacles and make things happen.
  • Collaborative: Comfortable working with a committee, presenting ideas and delivering shared objectives.

Above all, we want someone who sees the potential of the club and has the determination to turn that potential into reality.

Why Join Us?

This is an opportunity to take on an exciting project and play a central role in the future development of an established local club.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Take ownership of the day-to-day bar operation.
  • Help shape the club’s future direction and development.
  • Introduce new events, partnerships and income opportunities.
  • Build membership, increase footfall and develop a stronger community presence.
  • Work alongside a committee committed to the club’s future.
  • Make a lasting difference by helping create a successful, active and welcoming venue.

We are looking for someone who wants to make their mark — a manager who brings energy, professionalism, passion and ideas, and who is motivated by the challenge of building something stronger.

Ready to Take on the Challenge?

We want a manager who does more than simply open the bar and serve customers. We want someone who takes pride in the venue, understands what makes a hospitality business successful, connects with people and has the drive to deliver growth.
