Role Overview & Purpose
- Job Title: Childminding Assistant
- Responsible To: The registered childminder
- Purpose of the Role: To support the lead childminder in delivering high-quality care, implementing the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, and maintaining a secure, clean, and organized home-based childcare environment. [1, 3]
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Childcare and Supervision: Assist with daily routines, including welcoming children, engaging in play-based learning, and supervising indoor and outdoor activities. [2]
- Personal Care: Help with feeding, preparing nutritious snacks/meals, changing nappies, and managing toilet training where applicable. [4]
- Outings and School Runs: Accompany the childminder on local walks, park visits, and school/nursery pick-ups and drop-offs.
- Environment Maintenance: Keep play areas, equipment, and dining spaces clean, tidy, and compliant with health and safety standards. [5]
- Documentation and Communication: Assist in recording daily activities, observations, and incident logs (such as minor bumps or accidents) while maintaining strict confidentiality. [4, 5]
Essential Requirements & Qualifications
- Safeguarding & Welfare: A solid understanding of child protection policies and willingness to undergo required safeguarding training.
- DBS Check: An Enhanced DBS check with barred lists, registered on the update service.
- First Aid: A valid 12-hour Paediatric First Aid certificate (mandatory if left in sole charge of children for short periods).
- Personal Attributes: Patience, reliability, physical fitness for active outdoor play, and a warm, positive attitude.
