About the role
In this role, you will lead and deliver the metal precision, rapid prototype and additive manufacturing aspects of the STAR (Space Technology Applications from Research) project using a variety of tools and software to aid industry on a wide range of artefacts and sectors including Life Sciences/Biotech, transport, space instrumentation, energy, Food and Drink and creative industry sectors. You will provide technical, precision manufacturing, rapid prototyping and 3D Printing (additive Manufacturing) expertise, knowhow and delivery, including operating the facilities, in support of the successful delivery of outputs.
STAR (Space Technology Applications from Research) is a new high-tech research and development centre of excellence (part-funded by European Regional Development Fund) within the College of Science and Engineering. The STAR centre will provide design, electronic, precision machining and additive manufacturing expertise and technology demonstrations in composites, plastics and metals to SMEs, especially in Leicester and Leicestershire to launch new products and material through Research and Innovation. The dedicated high-tech serviced facility offers a new and bespoke/needs led practical project-based service to industry for design, testing, diagnostic, prototyping and manufacturing.
Working with the Business Manager you will build and maintain research, business and industry links and activity aligned with the University’s space and earth observation and engineering expertise.
