Debt Recovery Officer\n\n Rate of pay: £20.08 PAYE or £26.44 Umbrella per hour\n Job Type: Full-time hours (4 positions available)\n Location: Wembley HA9 - Hybrid working (1-2 days per week in office)\n Contract: Temporary until August 2026 with possible extension\n\nWe are seeking an experienced Debt Recovery Officer to support the effective recovery and enforcement of a range of debts. This role is key in ensuring timely collection while balancing customer circumstances with organisational objectives and compliance requirements.\n\nDay-to-day of the role:\n\nManage and recover debts including Council Tax (NEC), Sundry Debt (Oracle Advanced Collections), Parking, Housing Benefit Overpayments, Adult Social Care, and other assigned portfolios\nTake ownership of cases, negotiate payment arrangements, and progress accounts through recovery stage\nApply a range of recovery techniques to maximise collection while maintaining a customer-focused approach\nMonitor payment arrangements, follow up on defaults, and trace absconded debtors\nMaintain accurate and detailed records of all customer interactions and account activity\nRespond to telephone, written, and electronic enquiries in a professional and timely manner\nAnalyse reports and spreadsheets to track performance against targets\nLiaise with legal services, enforcement agents, and external agencies to progress recovery action\nWork with internal teams and external stakeholders to support overall debt recovery objectives\nAssist with complaints, service requests, and complex casework where required\nEnsure compliance with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures at all timesRequired Skills & Qualifications:\n\nKnowledge of debt recovery and enforcement processes, including county and/or magistrates' court procedures\nExperience working in a debt recovery, revenues, or similar environment\nExcellent verbal and written communication and debt recovery negotiation skills\n Strong numerical, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities\n Knowledge of delivering high-quality customer service in a diverse environment\nAbility to interpret legislation and explain complex information clearly\n Experience handling customer enquiries, complaints, and transactions\nAbility to manage challenging situations and customers professionally\nExperience using Microsoft Office and case management systems\nAbility to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines\nStrong understanding of equality, diversity, and customer care principlesTo apply for the Debt Recovery Officer position, please submit your CV detailing your relevant experience
