Esher, Surrey September 2026 Start £100-£110 PAYE per day Full-Time | Term Time Only Long-Term to Permanent \n Some young people need more than classroom support. \n They need adults who can stay calm during moments of anxiety, understand that behaviour is often communication, and help create an environment where they feel safe enough to learn. \n We are recruiting for a specialist SEND setting in Esher supporting pupils aged 7-16 with: \n\n • Autism (ASC)\n, • ADHD\n, • Social, Emotional & Mental Health (SEMH) needs\n, • Anxiety and emotional regulation difficulties\n, • Communication and interaction needs\n\n All pupils have EHCPs and require tailored support to access learning, build confidence and develop independence. \n The Role \n As a Mental Health & SEND Teaching Assistant, you will: \n\n • Support pupils experiencing anxiety, dysregulation or emotional overwhelm\n, • Build positive, trusting relationships through consistency and patience\n, • Work closely with teachers and other professionals to provide consistent support\n, • Help pupils engage with learning and classroom routines\n, • Encourage emotional regulation, confidence and independence\n, • Recognise early signs that a pupil may need additional support\n, • Promote positive behaviour using a trauma-informed approach\n, • Support sensory and emotional wellbeing throughout the school day\n\n What We're Looking For \n This role would suit someone with genuine SEND experience, whether professional or personal. \n We are particularly interested in hearing from: \n\n • Psychology, Education or Criminology graduates\n, • Youth Workers\n, • Learning Mentors\n, • Behaviour Mentors\n, • SEN Teaching Assistants\n, • Children's Residential Support Workers\n, • Care and Support Workers\n, • People with lived experience of SEND\n\n You will need: \n\n • Strong emotional intelligence and resilience\n, • A calm, patient and adaptable approach\n, • A genuine interest in SEND and mental health support\n, • The ability to build positive relationships with children and young people\n, • Confidence working as part of a close team\n\n The Reality \n This can be a challenging role. Some pupils may arrive with high anxiety, low confidence or previous negative experiences of education.
