CMC are seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to join our team in Loudwater, supporting defence programmes through the full systems engineering lifecycle. This 12-month contract (inside IR35) will initially focus on the front end of the V-model, producing documentation and systems artefacts through to Preliminary Design Review (PDR) by April. There is a strong likelihood of contract extension following client-accepted PDRs, continuing through post-PDR design and qualification phases. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team of systems, electrical, software, mechanical engineers and project managers (approx. 36 staff), contributing to architecture development, documentation, and requirements management. Key Responsibilities • Develop technical solutions to large and complex engineering problems, following Systems Engineering processes, to ensure customer requirements are met., • Produce and manage systems engineering artefacts at the front end of the lifecycle (requirements, architecture, design documentation, and PDR deliverables)., • Contribute to the system architecture, including producing architecture diagrams and supporting design reviews., • Support the transition of design through PDR into detailed design and qualification stages., • Apply knowledge of Defence Standards and design assurance to ensure compliance., • Work with requirements management tools (JAMA preferred, DOORS also acceptable)., • Collaborate closely with hardware, software, and project management teams to ensure technical consistency and delivery quality., • Present technical content at design reviews to internal stakeholders and external customers., • Provide accurate estimates of systems engineering effort, costs, and risks for project planning., • Mentor less experienced engineers where appropriate. Required Skills & Experience • Degree in an engineering, mathematical, or science-based subject, or equivalent practical experience., • Strong background in Systems Engineering and familiarity with the V-Model lifecycle., • Proven experience producing requirements, systems documentation, and architecture diagrams up to PDR., • Experience with requirements management tools – JAMA is preferred but not essential (DOORS acceptable)., • Familiarity with Defence Standards and their application to systems development., • Ability to explain technically complex concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders., • Experience in technical documentation, formal reviews, and system design assurance. Additional Information • Must be sole UK national and able to obtain full SC clearance., • Contract runs for 12 months, inside IR35, with high likelihood of extension following client-accepted PDRs.
