Plant Operative, Milling Process Technician • Industry: FMCG Food processing, • Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time, • Location: Harlow, Essex, • Salary: £40,000 PA, DOE, • Hours: 41.25 hours per week, • Shift Pattern: Two-weekly rotating shift cycle: Week 1: 06:00 – 14:15, Week 2: 13:45 – 22:00 Job Purpose: To operate, monitor, and maintain cleaning plant / milling equipment within a fast-paced FMCG environment, ensuring efficient production of high-quality products while adhering to safety, hygiene, and regulatory standards. Key Responsibilities: • Operate and monitor cleaning, milling machinery to process raw materials into finished goods., • Adjust machine settings to maintain product specifications and optimise efficiency., • Conduct routine checks and preventive maintenance to minimise downtime., • Perform quality control tests (e.g., particle size, moisture content) and record results., • Maintain accurate production logs and report any deviations or issues., • Ensure compliance with HACCP, and other food safety standards., • Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to troubleshoot and improve processes., • Follow all health, safety, and hygiene protocols in the production area. Skills & Qualifications: • Technical qualification or equivalent experience in food manufacturing or milling operations., • Knowledge of milling processes or cleaning plant environment in FMCG production environments., • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and process-related issues., • Experience with PLC and SCADA System desirable, • Familiarity with food safety regulations and quality standards., • Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure., • Good communication and teamwork skills., • Forklift license or ability to operate material handling equipment (desirable). Working Conditions: • Shift-based work Monday to Friday (including early and late shifts)., • Weekend coverage may be required depending on business needs and will be distributed fairly across teams., • Fast-paced, high-volume production environment. This role is critical in maintaining product integrity, driving continuous improvement, and supporting technical and commercial functions across the business. This is also a customer facing role when required, so the ability to troubleshoot, demonstrate, communicate and develop business. Key Responsibilities of the Quality and Technical Manager: Quality Analysis • Monitor daily Freeway weight data from all three sites., • Review test results for both milling sites., • Check CO₂ balances and raising agent feeder data., • Download and analyse daily flour batch reports to calculate gluten and remix percentages; maintain records for audits., • Verify wheat intake results for both milling sites., • Prepare and maintain documentation and summary reports related to quality data., • Oversee Certificates of Analysis (CoAs) and Certificates of Conformance (CoCs) for customers., • Liaise with the Head of Technical and respond to customer queries requiring flour and baking expertise., • Provide technical expertise in flour and baking during procurement processes., • Support sales development through troubleshooting, demonstrations, and collaboration with NPD and Sales teams on quality and flour selection., • Coordinate all customer and supplier complaints promptly and professionally., • Produce monthly and annual summary reports for Directors., • Assist with audits as required., • Promote company values and champion quality improvements across the business., • Maintain compliance with GDPR, Equality Act 2010, and Employment Rights Act 1996., • Extensive experience as a flour and bakery technologist, with strong technical knowledge of bread and cake production., • Deep understanding of how flour quality impacts baking processes and how bakery practices influence product outcomes., • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to interpret data from ERP, LIMS, and CRM systems., • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint., • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build lasting customer relationships., • Commercial awareness and business acumen., • Highly organised, detail-oriented, and proactive, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team., • Commitment to continuous learning and improvement. Role Overview The Technical Assurance Manager is responsible for ensuring that all food products meet the highest standards of safety, quality, and compliance with regulatory and customer requirements. This role will lead technical assurance programs, manage audits, and drive continuous improvement initiatives across the supply chain to maintain brand integrity and consumer trust. Working Hours 40 hours per week. Monday – Friday, core hours of 9am – 5:30pm Key Responsibilities • Ensure food safety, legality, quality, and integrity for all customers through the development, implementation, and adherence to technical policies and procedures., • Play an active role in achieving site accreditations by ensuring compliance and audit readiness for BRCGS and customer audits., • Develop and implement robust traceability systems to ensure transparency, regulatory compliance, and full product traceability., • Lead and manage pest control strategies within the food factory, protecting product integrity and maintaining a hygienic production environment in line with food safety standards., • Oversee product testing to ensure food safety and environmental monitoring ensure that the production environment does not contribute to contamination, • Investigate customer complaints, conduct root cause analysis, and implement effective preventive actions to enhance customer satisfaction, • Deliver training to site personnel on food safety, hygiene, and quality standards, fostering a culture of technical excellence., • Consistently and proactively monitor and manage site trends and risks, • Work closely with internal teams to boost food safety, compliance, provide technical guidance, and ensure cross-functional alignment. Health & Safety Responsibilities • Ensure compliance with LT Foods UK’s health & safety, food safety, and quality assurance standards., • Report any hazards, incidents, or near misses promptly to the Production Manager or Shift Supervisor., • Support the implementation of safety protocols and contribute to maintaining a safe working environment., • Participate in health and safety briefings and training sessions as required.
