Responsibilities Assist with food preparation tasks such as chopping, peeling, and assembling ingredients to support chefs and dietary staff Maintain cleanliness of kitchen areas, including washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, and organizing utensils and equipment Support meal assembly and plating according to established standards and menus Handle food safely by following proper food handling procedures and hygiene practices Help with inventory management by stocking supplies and notifying supervisors of low stock items Support catering events or special meal services by setting up serving stations and assisting staff as needed Follow all safety protocols related to food handling, knife skills, and kitchen operations to ensure a safe working environment Qualifications Previous experience in a dietary department, dietary aide role, or food service environment is preferred but not required Knowledge of food safety standards and proper food handling techniques Basic culinary skills including knife skills, meal preparation, and cooking techniques Experience with menu planning or food industry operations is a plus Strong organizational skills with the ability to work efficiently in a busy kitchen setting Excellent teamwork and communication abilities to collaborate effectively with kitchen staff and servers Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting supplies or moving equipment This role is ideal for individuals passionate about the culinary arts who want to develop their skills in a supportive environment.   Job DescriptionJob Summary: The Kitchen Assistant reports to the Kitchen Manager. The Kitchen Assistant - on part time basis supervises - the kitchen volunteers in the preparation and handling of all food when the Kitchen Manager is not present. He/She is responsible for the general cleanliness, food safety, and appearance of the Brother Benno kitchen and dining facility. In addition, he/she manages inventory, oversee food distribution, temperatures and ensures adequate number of food servers for each meal served. This position is an hourly position and will sometimes require execution of duties outside normal work hours. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: • Oversees execution of work performed by kitchen volunteers, • Ensures work is executed in a safe environment, • Documents injury reports Minimum Job Requirements: • Minimum 2 year's work experience in related field or equivalent., • Ability to effectively and efficiently supervise volunteers., • Must be able to lift 50 lbs., • Must be able to work indoors and outdoors., • Must be able to work in confined spaces., • Must be able to read and understand food handling instructions.
