Picker (also known as an Order Picker or Warehouse Picker) is a professional in logistics and supply chain management responsible for fulfilling customer orders by selecting items from inventory. The role involves the following key responsibilities: • Order Fulfillment: Receiving and interpreting "pick tickets" or digital orders to determine which items need to be collected., • Locating & Retrieving: Navigating warehouse aisles to find specific products on shelves using barcodes or serial numbers., • Accuracy Verification: Ensuring the correct item, quantity, size, and color are selected to prevent shipping errors., • Quality Control: Inspecting items for any visible damage or defects before they are moved to the packing station., • Technology & Equipment Use: Operating handheld RF scanners to update inventory in real-time and using machinery like pallet jacks or forklifts to move heavy goods., • Inventory Management: Updating the Warehouse Management System (WMS) after each retrieval and assisting with restocking shelves., • Preparation for Shipping: In many facilities, this role is combined with a Packer (Picker-Packer), where the worker also secures items with bubble wrap, labels boxes, and moves them to the loading dock.
