Job DescriptionJob Summary The Accounting Manager will be responsible for overseeing Island Pump and Tank’s financial activities, including cash management, day to day accounting responsibilities, financial reporting, ensuring compliance with GAAP accounting standards, and provide guidance as needed to the Accounts Payable and Billing departments for Island Pump and Tank. This role reports to the Assistant Controller. Duties/Responsibilities: * Financial Reporting and Analysis: * Prepare and maintain Balance Sheet supporting workpapers. * Prepare and record all monthly closing journal entries. * Prepare financial statements in accordance with GAAP, including Balance Sheets and Income Statements. * Review and analyze the financial statements for accuracy and completeness. * Ensure accurate and timely reporting in accordance with a 10 day monthly close. * Accounting Operations: * Cash Management - Oversee the daily integration between the bank’s online platform and IPT’s accounting software, ensuring all daily GL cash and banking activity is recorded correctly on a daily basis. * Handle day-to-day accounting tasks. * Prepare and file all sales and use tax returns. * Day-to-day supervision of the Payable and Billing teams. * Process ACH payments and issue physical checks as needed. * Ensure proper accounting procedures are followed. * Maintain accurate and organized financial records. * Support the Assistant Controller and Corporate Accounting team as needed. * Compliance and Auditing: * Ensure compliance with GAAP accounting standards and regulatory requirements. * Assist with external audits. * Prepare year-end work papers for the annual audit and income tax returns. * Distribute weekly reports to the management team. * Communication and Interpersonal Skills: * Communicate financial information clearly and concisely to both financial and non-financial stakeholders. * Build strong relationships with team members, other departments, bank representatives, and all other external contacts as needed. Supervisory Responsibilities: * Supervise and manage the day-to-day activities of the Accounts Payable, including addressing A/P invoice coding questions, accounting issue resolution, accounting software issue resolution, oversight of the monthly A/P invoice accruals, oversight of monthly vendor statement reconciliations, and any other A/P related issues. * Oversee the day-to-day activities of the Billing Team, including the Billing Team Manager. Provide guidance with accounting issue resolution, accounting software issue resolution, review monthly progress toward KPI goals regarding the backlog of unbilled work orders and monthly billing of construction projects if applicable. * Provide training and mentorship to staff members, sharing expertise and best practices. * Conduct performance evaluations in collaboration with the Assistant Controller. * Ensure directives from the Assistant Controller and Corporate Accounting team are adhered to to achieve key performance indicators for the department. Skills and Qualifications: * Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field. * Experience: Public accounting (audit or related field) with subsequent experience in private accounting is preferred, not required. * Certifications: CPA or other relevant accounting certifications (e.g., CMA, CIA) preferred, not required. * Technical Skills: Proficiency in accounting software and financial systems. Ability to function independently with minimal daily supervision in a fast-paced environment. * Soft Skills: Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. * Leadership Skills: Ability to lead, motivate, and manage a team. * Must possess strong Excel skills and the ability to navigate shared drives. * Must possess the ability to meet tight reporting deadlines. * Construction accounting or service-related accounting experience. Physical Requirements: * Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. * Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
