This position is responsible for assisting with roadway repairs, right-of-way maintenance, equipment operation, preventive maintenance, emergency response operations, and general highway maintenance activities while maintaining compliance with VDOT and OSHA safety standards. Responsibilities: • Assist with repairs and maintenance of state roadways and surrounding rights-of-way., • Operate hand tools, power tools, and highway maintenance equipment safely and effectively., • Perform minor repairs and preventive maintenance on equipment and tools., • Follow all applicable VDOT, OSHA, VOSHA, company, and industry safety standards and procedures., • Wear and properly utilize required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times., • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment., • Support roadway maintenance and construction activities as assigned., • Perform heavy manual labor, including lifting, carrying, loading, and unloading materials weighing up to 50 pounds., • Assist with emergency response operations, including snow removal, storm response, accident cleanup, and other disaster-related activities., • Participate as an active member of the maintenance crew to complete assigned projects and operational objectives., • Respond to emergency call-outs, including nights, weekends, holidays, and adverse weather when required., • Communicate effectively with supervisors, project management, and team members regarding work assignments and project progress., • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisory staff or project management.
