Job Description Head Swim Team Coach/Camp Swim Instructor About the Role: The Head Coach/Camp Swim Instructor plays a pivotal role in developing and leading a competitive swim team while also providing high-quality swim instruction during swim team practices and camp sessions. This position is responsible for creating a positive, safe, and motivating environment that fosters swimmers' growth in technique, endurance, and sportsmanship. The role requires designing and implementing training programs tailored to various skill levels, from beginners to advanced athletes, ensuring continuous improvement and competitive readiness. Additionally, the coach will mentor swimmers on goal setting, teamwork, and healthy competition, contributing to their overall personal and athletic development. Success in this role is measured by the swimmers' progress, team cohesion, and the ability to inspire a lifelong appreciation for swimming and fitness. Minimum Qualifications: * Certification in lifeguarding and CPR/AED from a recognized organization. * Proven experience coaching competitive swim teams or instructing swim lessons, preferably with youth athletes. * Strong knowledge of swimming techniques, training methodologies, and safety protocols. * Ability to communicate effectively with swimmers, parents, and staff. * Legal authorization to work in the United States. Preferred Qualifications: * Certification from a recognized swim coaching organization such as ASCA (American Swimming Coaches Association) or WSI from Red Cross. * Experience working with diverse age groups and skill levels in both competitive and recreational settings. * First aid certification beyond basic CPR/AED. * Experience organizing and managing swim camps or clinics. Responsibilities: * Develop and execute comprehensive swim training plans that address technique, conditioning, and race strategy for all team members. * Provide direct instruction and supervision during swim practices and camp sessions, ensuring safety and effective skill development. * Organize and lead swim meets, including coordinating logistics, motivating athletes, and managing team participation. * Evaluate swimmer performance regularly and provide constructive feedback to athletes and parents to support continuous improvement. * Maintain a positive and inclusive team culture that encourages respect, discipline, and enthusiasm for the sport. Hours may include, but are not limited to, the following activities: * Pre-season meeting date TBD, before June 1st * Swim Team Tryouts * Monday, June 1st, 2026 | 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM * Tuesday, June 2nd, 2026 | 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM * Mandatory Swimmer & Parent Meeting: Wednesday, June 10th, 2026 | 6:00 PM | The Grange * Evening Swim Team Practices: Monday–Thursday, June 15–June 25, 2026 * Pre-season swim meetings for orientation and preparation, if required * Swim Meets (dates TBD, possibly including Counties Meet during the week of August 4–8, 2026) * Morning and Afternoon Swim Team Practices: Monday–Thursday, June 29–August 6, 2026, 8:30 AM – 9:30 AM and 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM * Camp Swim lessons Monday - Friday June 29 - July 31, 2026 - 9:30 - 12:00 pm and Tot Swim Lessons Thursday 12:00 - 1:00 pm * Swim team end of season party - Friday, July 31st 5pm-9pm Time Off & Availability Expectations Employees are expected to communicate all known scheduling conflicts, time-off requests, and unavailable dates prior to the start of the summer season. This includes vacations, camps, orientations, or other commitments. Once the season schedule is finalized, time off requests must be submitted as early as possible and are subject to approval based on operational needs. Approval is not guaranteed during peak program periods. Unapproved absences or repeated last-minute schedule changes may result in disciplinary action and/or removal from the position. Meet Attendance Requirement Attendance at all assigned swim meets is a required component of this position. Coaches are expected to be present for the full duration of meets unless otherwise approved in advance by swim team management or pool administration.
