Job Description Accounting Manager / Controller - Construction or Trades Contract-to-hire or Direct Petaluma, CA - Onsite You are a hands-on Accounting Manager or Controller with strong construction or skilled trades accounting experience to lead and own all accounting and financial operations for our growing electrical contracting business. This role is ideal for a proactive, detail-oriented professional who thrives in a small business environment, enjoys building structure and process, and understands the complexities of job costing, liens, and project-based accounting. The ideal candidate is highly proficient with Jonas or similar ERP, Excel, Smartsheet, and financial systems management, and is ready to take full ownership of the accounting function while partnering closely with operations leadership. This position pays: $60.00 to $65.00 per hour What you will be doing: • Own all accounting functions including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and month-end close, • Manage job costing, project financial tracking, and profitability analysis, • Oversee lien waivers, lien rights, and construction-related compliance documentation, • Maintain accurate and timely data entry within Jonas ERP and related financial systems, • Develop, implement, and improve financial systems, controls, and reporting processes, • Prepare and present monthly financial statements and operational performance reports to ownership, • Manage cash flow forecasting, budgeting, and financial planning activities, • Coordinate with external CPA for tax filings and year-end reporting, • Provide financial insights and analysis to support operational leadership and business decisions, • Ensure compliance with all financial, regulatory, and reporting requirements, • Support process improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and scalability across the business What you bring: • 5+ years of accounting leadership experience, preferably as a Controller or Senior Accountant, • Strong background in construction, electrical contracting, or skilled trades environments, • Deep understanding of job costing and construction accounting principles, • Experience managing liens, lien waivers, and construction compliance documentation, • Hands-on experience with Jonas ERP, including detailed accounting data entry and reporting, • High proficiency with ERP systems, Smartsheet, and advanced Excel functions, • Proven ability to implement and improve accounting processes within a growing business, • Strong attention to detail with a hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves approach, • Excellent communication skills with the ability to partner effectively with operations leadership, • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required, • CPA designation preferred, but not requiredCompany DescriptionFor over 50 years, Nelson Connects has empowered employers and job seekers to achieve their unique versions of success.
