Seasonal Tax Preparer
Location: Catskill, NY
Job Type: Seasonal / Fulltime
Schedule: Full-Time during tax season 5 to 6 days a week.
Pay: Competitive, based on experience
About the Position
We are looking for a reliable and experienced Seasonal Tax Preparer to join our tax office in Catskill, NY, during the upcoming tax season. The ideal candidate will have experience preparing individual and/or business tax returns and be comfortable working directly with clients.
Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate federal and state income tax returns.
- Review tax documents, including W-2s, 1099s, 1098s, and other tax forms.
- Interview clients to gather required tax information.
- Identify applicable deductions, credits, and tax-saving opportunities.
- Review completed returns for accuracy and completeness.
- Communicate with clients regarding missing information and tax-related questions.
- Maintain confidentiality of client financial and personal information.
- Follow IRS, New York State, and company procedures.
- Assist with tax return corrections, rejected e-files, and client follow-ups when needed.
- Maintain organized records and meet tax-season deadlines.
Requirements
- Previous tax preparation experience preferred.
- Knowledge of U.S. federal and state individual income tax returns.
- Familiarity with tax preparation software; Drake Tax experience is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work efficiently in a busy tax-season environment.
- PTIN required or ability to obtain one before preparing returns.
- Experience with New York State tax returns is preferred.
Preferred Experience
- 3+ year of professional tax preparation experience.
- Experience preparing Form 1040 returns.
- Experience with self-employed individuals, rental properties, dependents, credits, and itemized deductions.
- Previous experience working in a tax office or accounting firm.
