A full-time Infant Teacher plays a crucial role in providing a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for infants (typically ages 6 weeks to 18 months). Below are the key roles and responsibilities for this position:
Primary Responsibilities 1. Infant Care & Supervision
• Provide constant supervision to ensure the safety and well-being of all infants.
• Follow safe sleep practices (e.g., placing infants on their backs to sleep).
• Support feeding schedules (bottle-feeding, transitioning to solids, etc.) while following individual needs and dietary restrictions.
• Maintain proper diapering and hygiene routines, including frequent diaper changes and sanitization procedures. 2. Developmentally Appropriate Practices
• Foster sensory, cognitive, and motor development through age-appropriate activities (e.g., tummy time, music, soft toys, and interactive play).
• Encourage language development by talking, singing, and reading to infants regularly.
• Support emerging gross and fine motor skills through guided movements and hands-on activities.
• Provide opportunities for social and emotional growth by responding warmly to infants’ needs and encouraging peer interaction. 3. Health & Safety Compliance
• Follow all state licensing regulations regarding infant care.
• Maintain a clean and sanitized classroom environment (bedding, toys, surfaces, bottles, etc.).
• Administer first aid or CPR if needed (must be certified).
• Report any illnesses, injuries, or concerns to the Director and parents promptly. 4. Communication with Families
• Provide daily reports on infants’ feeding, diapering, sleep, and activities through verbal updates or a parent communication app.
• Foster positive relationships with parents by discussing developmental milestones and addressing concerns.
• Work collaboratively with parents to support transitions (e.g., from bottle to cup, crawling to walking). 5. Record Keeping & Documentation
• Track infant milestones and behaviors using assessment tools.
• Maintain up-to-date emergency contact information and medical records.
• Follow attendance tracking procedures. 6. Team Collaboration & Professionalism
• Work closely with co-teachers to ensure a consistent daily routine.
• Attend staff meetings, training, and professional development sessions.
• Follow all center policies and procedures, including confidentiality and ethical standards.
