Job Description Outdoor Living, Gift Store, Houseplant & Cashier Manager Position Summary The Outdoor Living, Gift Store, Houseplant & Cashier Manager oversees the staff, merchandising, operations, and product lines primarily located within the Garden Center and Container Cove Greenhouse. This role is responsible for giftware, garden-inspired lifestyle products, pottery, fountains, outdoor living products, houseplants, and the custom container program, while leading the teams that support these areas including cashiers, buyers, merchandisers, and greenhouse staff. This position plays a key leadership role in creating an exceptional customer experience, driving sales growth, maintaining strong merchandising standards, and supporting overall retail garden center operations. This is a full-time position, with some Saturday work required. Our season begins in early February and runs through Christmas, with an approximate 6 to 8 week winter lay-off period. Responsibilities Customer Service & Operations • Provide exceptional customer service and professionally resolve customer concerns, • Maintain smooth daily operations within assigned departments, • Develop and implement procedures and standards to support efficient operations, • Collaborate with other retail managers to provide leadership across the garden center Leadership & Staff Management • Recruit, interview, hire, train, coach, schedule, evaluate, and develop employees, • Foster accountability and team performance through clear communication and leadership, • Conduct performance reviews and address employee concerns or disciplinary matters as needed, • Directly supervise approximately 10–15 employees in accordance with company policies and procedures Department Oversight Supervise and support the following teams and positions: Cashier Team • Lead Cashier (1), • Full-Time & Part-Time Cashiers (5) Container Cove & Merchandising • Container Cove Greenhouse & Custom Potting Staff (2), • Merchandisers (1.5) Buyers • Gift Lines, Pottery & Outdoor Living (1), • Houseplants (.5), • Tropicals (.5), • Hardgoods (1), • Christmas (.5) Merchandising & Sales • Oversee sales, margins, and inventory levels for non-plant retail product categories, • Create attractive and effective merchandising displays throughout the Garden Center, Container Cove Greenhouse, and Retail Sales Yard, • Drive profitability through strategic product placement, seasonal displays, and promotional execution, • Lead and grow the custom container department with an emphasis on quality and sales growth, • Support achievement of overall retail profit goals Page Break Qualifications • 2–4 years of related retail management experience or equivalent combination of education and experience, • Knowledge of retail operations, merchandising, inventory management, and team leadership, • Enthusiasm for outdoor living, gift, garden, and houseplant product categories, • Strong creativity, visual merchandising, and design skills, • Proven ability to supervise, motivate, and develop employees, • Excellent customer service and communication skills, • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities, • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, • Positive, flexible, and team-oriented attitude, • Professional appearance and demeanor, • Ability to effectively communicate with individuals from diverse backgrounds and at all organizational levels Physical Demands & Work Environment • Frequently required to stand and walk for extended periods, • Frequent bending, kneeling, balancing, and lifting, • Frequently required to use visual acuity for operating equipment, reading information, and computer work, • Frequently lift, push, or carry items up to 25 pounds, • Occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions and greenhouse heat/humidity Compensation & Benefits • Compensation based on experience: $22–$28 per hour, • Paid Time Off begins accruing immediately to a total of 2 weeks in the first year, • Health, Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance available on a shared cost basis., • Employee Discount, • No Sunday Work, • Uniform Allowance Monday through Saturday 40 Hours
