Job Description Job Title: Building Automation Technician Job Description The Building Automation Technician installs, programs, and troubleshoots advanced building automation and control systems across a variety of platforms. This role plays a key part in system startup and commissioning, developing control strategies and graphics, and supporting customers through service, optimization, and training. The technician works closely with sales, engineering, and field teams to ensure projects are delivered on time, on scope, and to a high technical standard, while also mentoring other technicians and helping to standardize best practices. Responsibilities • Install, program, and troubleshoot building automation systems, including platforms such as Honeywell WEBs, Niagara AX/N4, Johnson Controls, Siemens, and similar technologies., • Perform detailed point-to-point checkout, startup, and commissioning of building automation and control systems to ensure proper operation and integration., • Lead or assist with control system design, including developing control sequences of operation, creating system graphics, and preparing project documentation., • Support emergency service calls, perform preventive maintenance (PMs), provide customer training, and optimize system performance to meet operational and energy goals., • Collaborate with sales, engineers, and field technicians to review scopes of work, perform takeoffs, and plan projects effectively., • Mentor and support other technicians in the field, sharing knowledge and helping to standardize best practices across the team., • Troubleshoot complex system issues using drawings, submittals, and control logic to identify root causes and implement effective solutions., • Minimum of 5 years of field service experience in Building Automation, HVAC, or Electrical systems., • Hands-on experience with building automation and controls, including installation, commissioning, and startup of building automation systems., • Proficiency with Niagara AX/N4 and Tridium-based platforms, including system configuration and troubleshooting., • Strong troubleshooting skills for building automation systems, control networks, and related hardware and software., • Solid understanding of building automation hardware, including DDC controllers, field devices, and control networks., • Ability to read and interpret drawings, submittals, and control schematics to diagnose and resolve complex system issues., • Experience performing point-to-point checkout, system startup, and commissioning activities., • Ability to support emergency service and preventive maintenance activities in the field., • Effective collaboration skills to work with sales, engineering, and field teams on project scopes and planning. Work Environment The role is primarily field-based within construction and fit-out environments, working on active building projects and existing facilities. You will work with a variety of building automation platforms and related hardware in mechanical rooms, electrical spaces, and occupied areas, coordinating closely with other trades and project teams. The position involves on-site system installation, commissioning, service, and optimization, requiring comfort with tools, test equipment, and laptops used for programming and diagnostics.
