Job Description Senior Civil Estimator – Heavy Civil Construction Location: Fairfield, NJ (Northern New Jersey Projects) Company: Our client – a well-established heavy civil contractor Salary: $150,000 – $200,000 (commensurate with experience) Overview Our client, a highly reputable heavy civil contractor based in Northern New Jersey, is seeking a Senior Civil Estimator to join their growing team. This firm specializes in complex heavy highway, earthwork, and infrastructure projects, delivering high-quality results across municipal, state, union, and private-sector work throughout NJ. They are looking for a top-tier estimator—someone who can take full ownership of the bid process and consistently produce competitive, winning lump sum bids. About the Company This contractor is recognized throughout New Jersey for delivering challenging civil projects with precision, professionalism, and a commitment to on-time, on-budget performance. Project experience includes: • Heavy Highway Construction: roadwork, bridges, reinforced concrete structures, grading, paving, drainage, and infrastructure, • Site Work / Heavy Earthwork: clearing, mass excavation, utilities, concrete, hardscape, and site improvements, • Utility Infrastructure: water, storm, sewer, and underground services, • Transportation & Infrastructure: roads, bridges, tunnels, and large-scale public works They are known for strong planning, reliable execution, and a collaborative, performance-driven culture. Key Responsibilities • Lead the full estimating lifecycle from bid review through final submission, • Prepare and manage lump sum bids for heavy civil and infrastructure projects, • Interpret and analyze engineering drawings, specifications, and bid documents, • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs (earthwork, utilities, concrete, paving, drainage, structures), • Develop complete project cost structures including labor (union), equipment, materials, subcontractors, and indirect costs, • Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and vendor pricing; build strong industry relationships, • Evaluate project risks, constructability, and schedule impacts, • Collaborate closely with project management, operations, and field teams, • Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client discussions, • Prepare final bid proposals, scopes, clarifications, and presentations, • Contribute to value engineering and bid strategy discussions, • Stay current with NJDOT standards, union requirements, and regional market pricing Qualifications • 10+ years of estimating experience with a heavy civil contractor, • Strong background in heavy highway, site development, utility infrastructure, and earthwork, • Proven experience managing and delivering lump sum bids, • Experience working on union projects and understanding labor structures, • Deep knowledge of NJDOT, municipal standards, and NJ-based construction requirements, • Expert-level knowledge of grading, drainage, concrete structures, roadway construction, and utilities, • Proficiency in estimating software, digital takeoff tools, and advanced Excel skills, • Ability to read and interpret complex civil engineering plans and specifications, • Strong negotiation, analytical, and communication skills, • High level of accuracy and ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously, • Proven track record of preparing competitive, winning bids What They’re Looking For • A true “go-to” estimator—someone who owns the number and stands behind it, • A high performer who thrives in a deadline-driven, competitive bid environment, • Someone who understands field execution, not just estimating theory, • A team-oriented professional with strong subcontractor and vendor relationships Compensation & Benefits • Base salary: $150K – $200K (based on experience and performance), • Comprehensive benefits package (medical, dental, vision), • 401(k) with company contribution, • Paid time off, holidays, and sick leave, • Long-term growth opportunity with a respected NJ-based contractor Equal Employment Opportunity NorthPoint Staffing, LLC provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type without regard to race, color, religion, age,
