Essential Job Functions: • Responds to all calls for services involving crimes activity, emergencies, and requests for assistance., • Administers emergency medical aid when necessary., • Safeguards sensitive and confidential information concerning individuals and investigations., • Maintains and restores order at public gatherings, community events, and emergency scenes., • Investigates incidents and prepares detailed reports, including traffic accidents and criminal offenses., • Files complaints and initiates enforcement actions for violations of laws and ordinances., • Protects and preserved crime scenes to ensure integrity of evidence., • Assists the general public by providing information, guidance and direction., • Identifies reports, and/or removes hazards to promote public safety., • Escorts authorized personnel in the secure transport of money or other valuables., • Operates patrol vehicles, firearms, communication systems, and specialized law enforcement equipment safely and effectively., • Participates in community outreach and public education programs, including engagement with local schools and neighborhood watch groups., • Maintains awareness of officer safety standards and applies safe work practices in all duties., • High School Diploma or GED Equivalency, • Must occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds., • May be exposed to inclement weather, undesirable social situations, and/or environments., • A valid Tennessee driver’s license is required., • Must be able to drive and hold a valid Driver’s license that must remain valid as condition of continued employment., • Must be able to work any shift, including days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays, • Knowledge of methods, techniques, principles, and modern police work., • Knowledge of pertinent federal and state laws, city ordinances, departmental orders, policies, and procedures., • Knowledge of the geography and demographic features of the City., • How and when to apply “Deadly Force” in the enforcement of laws or the apprehension of criminals., • Knowledge of the concepts and processes of the Tennessee criminal justice system., • Ability to ascertain facts by personal contact, observation, and the examination of records and to analyze and evaluate these facts., • Ability to react quickly and calmly in an emergency situation and to determine the proper course of action., • Ability to explain and interpret pertinent provisions of laws and regulations., • Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public and other employees., • Maintains firearm qualification standards., • Maintains minimum training standards set forth by the Tennessee Peace Officers and Standards Training Commission.
