SUMMARY New York Edge is looking for passionate and enthusiastic individuals to fill the role of Flag Football Specialist. In this position, you will be critical in providing tailored, age-appropriate coaching and mentoring to young people in New York Edge's after-school day camp programs. Flag Football Specialists are responsible for organizing and leading physical activity programs, ensuring the safety of all participants. In this role, you will manage and lead flag football activities to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for all involved. WORK SCHEDULE * 9-15 hours per week. * Monday through Friday -- 2:30 pm - 5:30 pm ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS * Motivate students to engage in flag football activities and promote daily physical activity. * Develop and implement lesson plans that are structured, age-appropriate, and aligned with our flag football curriculum. These plans should focus on skills such as passing, receiving, and flag pulling. * Maintain communication with the Program Director regarding schedules, leagues, tournaments, and special events, including playoff games and scrimmages. * Encourage student participation in organization-wide flag football events and activities, including clinics and friendly competitions. * Establish and enforce safety rules and procedures to maintain order among participants, emphasizing the importance of fair play and sportsmanship. * Instruct participants on flag football techniques, including routes, formations, and defensive strategies, while ensuring proper use of equipment such as flags and cones. * Set clear objectives for lessons and communicate these goals to students, focusing on skill development and teamwork. * Prepare facilities for flag football practices and games, ensuring the playing area is safe and properly marked. * Evaluate activities to ensure they meet desired learning outcomes and adapt to accommodate varying skill levels. * Foster the development of both athletic skills and positive character traits, such as teamwork, respect, and resilience among youth. * Provide support during academic hours as needed. REQUIRED SKILLS * Must be knowledgeable and skilled in Flag Football and have prior experience successfully teaching and instructing youth. * Prior experience teaching and instructing youth preferred * Must be able to follow a curriculum * Must be responsible, reliable, and punctual! * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required. * May be required to walk up and down stairs. * May have to lift or move objects/materials as needed. * Work is performed mostly within a New York City Public School but may be required to interact with the community at-large during trips or events. QUALIFICATIONS * High School Diploma or Equivalent required; some college preferred * A minimum of one year of work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is required. * A minimum of one year of teaching experience is required. * Must have passion for New York Edge's mission and demonstrated interest in education and youth development. * Candidates qualified to lead instruction in more than one activity are also preferred. The Flag Football Specialist will be required to report to the school building and interact with staff, students, parents, and school administration. Program Description: PHS’ Community Health and Nutrition Access Program helps New York residents obtain free or low-cost health insurance coverage, apply for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, also known as Food Stamps), and through our WIC program, provides nutrition education sessions led by WIC nutritionists on healthy eating and physical activity, breastfeeding support, and eWIC cards to purchase nutritious foods. Our staff members are culturally and linguistically competent and identify with the communities they serve. They help clients navigate through what can be a complicated and confusing application process, step by step. Each year, we help over 22,000 people apply for or renew free or low-cost health insurance coverage, 14,000 people to apply for SNAP, and 35,000 eligible pregnant and nursing women and children up to five years of age to enroll in the New York State WIC (Women Infants and Children) Program. Summary of Position: Under direct supervision of the Center Manager, the Qualified Nutritionist is responsible for the assessment of the WIC eligibility of applicants, direct implementation of nutrition education components, participant-centered nutrition services and support to WIC clients. Specifically, the Qualified Nutritionist will: • Verifies and documents eligibility of WIC participants to enroll eligible applicants., • Provides general knowledge of WIC program and orientation to new participants., • Participates in the administration of the WIC program and evaluation of documents., • Develop and implement individual care plans (ICPs) and oversee high risk care to all participants., • Provide oversight and guidance to CPA and Nutrition Assistant staff., • Provides individual and facilitated group discussion using the Participant Centered Nutrition Education (PCNE) technique., • Ensures relevant and current information transfer regarding pregnancy, nutrition, and/or health concerns., • Assists in evaluating and developing literature, posters, videos and DVDs., • Conducts Participant Centered Nutrition Assessment (PCNA) to motivate WIC participants and help improve their health and nutrition status., • Performs client anthropometric and hematological measurements on site to prevent delay in benefits between physician visits., • Undergoes annual anthropometric and hematological training on site., • Participates in all other activities that contribute to the efficient operation of the WIC Center., • Ability to travel and work at other WIC centers in Queens, Brooklyn, and the Bronx., • Attends all mandatory trainings and meetings., • B.S. or B.A. in Food and Nutrition, including at least 18 semester credits in nutrition.
