The mobile application for job search in the leading services sector in Spain last year registered more than 200,000 job offers throughout the territory, from nearly 120,000 companies that already rely on JOB TODAY to recruit their staff. As a specialized app in the services sector, and following the tonic of the Spanish labor market, in JOB TODAY the most offered jobs are those linked to catering and hospitality, which represent a third of the new offers published every month. Thus, throughout 2016, more than 40,000 offers of waiters and about 15,000 kitchen staff were published in JOB TODAY. Nearby is the offer of jobs in sales and marketing, with more than 35,000 ads registered in the app last year.
JOB TODAY’s offers are geolocated throughout the Spanish territory and are consistent with the dynamics of the country’s labor market in terms of supply of the services sector, with Barcelona and Madrid leading the generation of employment . Thus, the capital of Spain concentrated 29% of the offers published in the application, while the offers located in the city represent 25.5% of the total. They are followed in number of offers published by several cities in the Valencian Community, Andalusia, the Canary Islands and the Basque Country.
These data are consistent with the figures advanced by the government in mid-January that reported that Spain hosted in 2016 a record of foreign tourists receiving 75.6 tourists throughout the year. The sector has become the main engine of the Spanish economy, contributing 11% of GDP and being the main pillar of the services sector, in which JOB TODAY specializes.
As for the number of users who already use the application to find their future employment, JOB TODAY already has more than 2 Million candidates who made more than 22 Million job applications last year . Of these candidates, around 1.5Millions registered in the app in 2016, which represents a growth of 67% compared to 2015 .
Another of the milestones that JOB TODAY has achieved this past 2016 and that reflects the potential of the application, is the series B financing round that closed at the end of the year for 20 million dollars , in which both its initial investors Accel participated Partners and Mangrove Capital as new investments of different funds and media partners. This has allowed to increase both the technical and commercial equipment, which has meant new functionalities such as a web interface for large accounts, and with it the incorporation of several large accounts such as Dia, Burger King, Desigual, McDonalds, Derby Hotels, Domino’s Pizza, Prosegur or Grupo Planeta among others.
Sergio Balcells, CEO of JOB TODAY in Spain, highly values the company’s trajectory during 2016 as well as the evolution of the Spanish labor market in recent months. However, he also states that “there is much room for improvement. Keep in mind that there are still 4.2 million people out of work in Spain and there are many measures to apply to change this situation. From Job Today, we try to make a more dynamic and efficient labor market by connecting thousands of companies and candidates every day, quickly and easily and through a tool that everyone uses, the mobile ”.
All this in a context with hope for Spain, which ended 2016 with 413,600 more employed and 541,700 less unemployed and an unemployment rate of 18.6%, the lowest level in seven years, according to data from the latest Survey of Active population.
