Boarding Home Resident Tutor (Temporary position, native or high level of English required) We are seeking a proactive Resident Tutor to join our boarding team. The Resident Tutor will work alongside the Head of Boarding, School Tutors and Resident Tutors to provide day-to-day pastoral care, supervision and support to boarders; lead evening house life; and ensure that students are safe, well cared for and ready for school life. This is a temporary residential position with the possibility of becoming permanent, Monday to Friday only, requiring a strong commitment to boarding life. A native or high level of English is essential for this role, as it is the primary language of communication within the boarding environment. Key responsibilities Pastoral care and student welfare Support the Head of Boarding in the pastoral welfare, care, supervision and presentation of students in the Boarding. Be a consistent pastoral point of contact for students, conducting regular check-ins and offering a supportive and approachable presence in English. Ensure students are prepared for each school day and activities, with appropriate kit and clothing. Liaise closely with the Head of Boarding, nursing staff and relevant teachers on domestic, welfare and medical matters, communicating effectively in English. Contribute to induction and settling-in arrangements for new boarders and escalate any concerns to the Head of Boarding. Running the House Lead the evenings during the week, taking responsibility for evening activities and the smooth running of the House during that time. Provide cover in the Boarding during periods of staff illness or absence. Support the creation of a positive boarding community, including pastoral programmes, routines and standards, ensuring effective communication in English at all times. Compliance, safeguarding and professional duties Be familiar with and adhere to Yago School’s Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy and related procedures. Attend boarding staff meetings as required and undertake any training deemed necessary. Familiarise yourself with boarding best practice and applicable standards, ensuring compliance. Support the school’s health and safety, anti-bullying and behaviour policies, and carry out any additional duties as requested by the Head of Boarding or Head of School. Person specification / requirements Qualifications Qualified teacher status (or internationally recognised equivalent) — e.g., relevant bachelor’s degree plus PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification. Evidence of continuing professional development. Experience & skills Substantial classroom experience in a strong school environment; experience of pastoral or boarding roles highly desirable. Familiarity with international curriculum (IB PYP/MYP/DP advantageous) and a commitment to student-centred pedagogies. Strong pastoral sensitivity and the ability to build positive relationships with students and families. Excellent communication skills in English (fluency required); proficiency in Spanish is highly desirable. Comfortable working with students for whom English is an additional language. Digital literacy and willingness to use the school’s digital platforms in everyday practice. Personal attributes A genuine passion for boarding education and the holistic development of young people.
