Yes Offer Description CHARACTERISTICS OF THE JOB • Job location: ICRA – Catalan Institute for Water Research, Girona (Spain), • Number of positions available: 1, • Expected start: 1st September 2026, • Expected duration of the contract: 12 months or end of the project OFFER DESCRIPTION We are looking for a motivated service technician, with experience in urban sanitation systems, to work on the project GenCon2023_IRONSEWER Optimizing Iron salts dosage in sewer systems: enhancing functionality and exploring microcontaminants dynamics and implications for wastewater based epidemiology. The objectives of the project are the development and application of advanced modeling and real‑time monitoring for the optimal use of iron salts in the control of H2S and CH4, along with the testing of recycled iron‑based by‑products as an alternative to commercial products, aiming to improve the circularity and sustainability of the urban water cycle. Likewise, it addresses the understanding of microcontaminant dynamics in sewer systems with ferric dosing, as well as the evaluation of the stability of exposure biomarkers for wastewater‑based epidemiology (WBE) in sewer networks treated with ferric for corrosion control. The contract is part of the action PID2 OB-I00, funded by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, the Agency and, where appropriate, the European Union (IRONSEWER Project – PID2 OB-I00 funded by MICIU/AEI/10.13039/5 and by FEDER, EU). KEY DUTIES The position involves executing complex technical project activities, including sampling in sanitation systems, physicochemical characterization, operation of pilot systems, and monitoring of treatment systems. The candidate will carry out laboratory work, including the operation of pilot plants and experiments in sewer systems. They will also be responsible for monitoring these systems using advanced online instrumentation and offline chemical analysis, as well as implementing and maintaining the online control systems developed within the IRONSEWER project. The technician will work on WP1 and WP2 of the project. The position requires a certain degree of autonomy and responsibility, combined with smooth interaction with IT technicians, administrators, and public sanitation service operators. The candidate is expected to have the capacity to participate in decision‑making that affects fundamental aspects of the IRONSEWER activities. The candidate must be available to communicate with local and international operators (English is the regular language of communication) and be available to travel to the project’s demonstration sites. Environmental engineering or a similar field, and knowledge of the wastewater transport and treatment systems. Qualifications and Education Level Minimum qualification of Intermediate Level Training Cycle or equivalent. Desirable and valuable Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Biology or similar. A valid driver’s license permitting operation of vehicles in Spain is also required. Skills • Knowledge of water and wastewater engineering systems., • Understanding of occupational health and safety, as well as hazardous operations in wastewater engineering., • Practical knowledge and skills in a technical research environment, particularly in scientific and/or engineering disciplines., • Capacity to learn new skills and acquire knowledge within the scope of the workplace., • Excellent attention to detail. Strong report‑writing skills., • Ability to work effectively both independently and as a team member., • Self‑motivation and the ability to solve problems using one’s own initiative., • Strong communication and organizational skills, with the capacity to meet objectives within established deadlines., • Experience in writing scientific/technical reports and user‑friendly manuals or notes to document operating procedures and instructions. Required Languages • English, • Spanish, • Catalan Required Experience At least 6 months of research experience in sanitation and wastewater treatment pilot plants, with experience in environmental engineering, data analysis, laboratory analytical techniques, scientific writing, and R&D projects.
