Would you like to be a part of a company with a bigger purpose and make it successful with your own ideas? If yes, keep reading! We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join our Unified Compute team and take technical ownership of the low-level systems that power how scientific workloads run in the cloud. Our scheduling project (Sched) has gained real momentum, and we need a senior engineer to help build the ecosystem around it to the next level. The core of this role is deep in the stack — Fusion (a FUSE filesystem presenting cloud object storage as POSIX), Fusion Snapshots (CRIU-based checkpoint/restore that survives spot-instance reclamation), and Ignite (a container process manager) — with Sched as the orchestration layer that ties compute together. You'll also support adjacent services such as Groundswell (ML-based resource prediction) and Cloudinfo (multi-cloud pricing/metadata). It's a hands‑on senior role with strong architectural influence. • Design, build, and own low-level systems across Fusion, Fusion Snapshots, Ignite, and Sched., • Write reliable, well-tested code primarily in Go and C, with Rust and JVM (Groovy/Java, Micronaut) where the codebase calls for it., • Work close to the OS: FUSE filesystems, Linux namespaces, CRIU checkpoint/restore, process supervision, signal handling, static musl builds., • Tackle multi-cloud orchestration and scheduling: provider abstractions (AWS, Azure, GCP), instance selection, autoscaling, spot-instance fault tolerance, durable async queues., • Drive performance engineering — chunked I/O, multi-level caching, buffer pools, bandwidth management., • Set technical direction and raise the standard for testing, observability, and operational excellence., • Mentor teammates and help onboard new engineers., • Deep experience building production‑grade systems software, with technical ownership at Staff level., • Strong in Go and comfortable in C (or C++), close to the operating system., • Solid Linux internals — filesystems, namespaces, processes, signals, networking — and comfortable debugging at that level., • Built distributed and/or cloud-native systems and understand the failure modes of running across multiple clouds., • Write simple, well‑structured, well-tested code; optimize for clarity and debuggability., • Comfortable with ambiguity and driving work independently., • We use AI every day and expect engineers to use it extensively — you don't need to be an expert, but you must be genuinely open to it., • CRIU / checkpoint-restore / process migration., • FUSE or other filesystem/VFS work., • Rust; JVM (Groovy/Java, Micronaut)., • Container runtimes, Docker internals, Kubernetes., • HPC/Batch (AWS Batch, Google Batch, Azure Batch)., • Applied ML / data engineering (Groundswell); open-source systems contributions., • Flexible working hours and remote-friendly culture., • International working environment with more than 25 nationalities., • Passionate & talented team., • Continuous skills development., • Team retreats and bonding activities., • A culture where your opinion is valued and your decisions have a real impact on the industry., • Excitement of a fast-growing startup in a constantly changing environment., • Time off: 20 days for vacations per year, 3 days given by Seqera in December, and the national/public holidays according to your location., • Equity, • Private health insurance with United Healthcare, dental with Delta, and vision coverage from Vision Service Plan., • Private life insurance with Lincoln, • Investment app with Vestwell (401K), • Home office equipment (valued over 1,000 USD), • Subscription to Oliva, Mental Health App, • Learning and development budget per year (1,000 USD) #J-18808-Ljbffr

Empowered with modern software engineering, organizations conduct science faster, on larger datasets, and with more confidence. Seqera accelerates discoveries in an open world. Would you like to be a part of a company with a bigger purpose and make it successful with your own ideas? If yes, keep reading! Seqera builds the modern biotech stack. Nextflow orchestrates the pipelines, Seqera Platform runs and governs them at scale, and a growing set of AI tools speeds up the work around them. Tens of thousands of bioinformaticians already build on Nextflow, and the world's leading pharma and biotech teams run production science on the Platform. You will join Professional Services, the team that owns a client's path from first deployment to running science in production. You will onboard clients to Seqera Platform (Cloud and Enterprise), and make things work within each client's own security and compliance posture. You are a technical generalist with areas of specialization. You will deploy cloud infrastructure, build the tools that make it repeatable, and sit across the table from a client to work out what they actually need. One week you are deep in a client's network and certificate setup, the next you are automating a deployment or drawing a real requirement out of a half-formed one. If that range sounds energizing rather than daunting, the role fits: every part of it is core, and we will expect you to work across all of it and keep sharpening the areas you know least. We sit at the front line of client delivery. No team spends more time inside real client implementations, so we are first to learn what production actually demands. You take what Engineering ships and make it land cleanly in environments richer and more constrained than any lab. You also leave it easier to deploy for the next client. On calls, you are the steady technical presence in the room. Clients are intelligent and deeply engaged, but much of a Seqera deployment sits outside their specialty, and they look to you. You answer most questions from a strong base of knowledge and handle the rest with composure. When you need to verify something, you say so plainly and then follow through, so everything we tell a client holds up. You will work with a wide range of people: scientists and bioinformaticians who prototype fast in the open, client engineers picking up infrastructure alongside their research, and seasoned IT and DevOps teams. You help carry fast-moving ideas into robust, production-ready implementations. You meet each audience at their level, make hard topics approachable, and explain the reasoning behind a recommendation, not just the recommendation itself. • Technical onboarding - Lead client implementations across cloud, hybrid, and on-prem environments, from requirements to a working Seqera Platform deployment., • Infrastructure deployment - Stand up the environment the Platform runs in and the compute it dispatches to, including networking, DNS, TLS, private CAs, IAM and secrets, container runtimes, and the storage that pipelines depend on., • Working within client constraints - Deliver whether you have full account access or almost none, guiding the client's own IT through each change while respecting their security and compliance posture., • Tooling and automation - Build the tools that make deployment repeatable and safe for non-experts. Give them pre-flight checks, clear failures, tests, and documentation so they keep working long after handover., • Pre-sales and proof of concept - Partner with Sales and Scientific Development to shape solutions and run proof-of-concept deployments., • Escalation and pattern-spotting - Act as a senior escalation point, turning recurring client problems into lasting fixes alongside internal teams., • Cloud depth. You are already strong in at least one of AWS, Azure, or GCP. Multi-cloud expertise is a real advantage. Exposure to HPC schedulers such as SLURM or Grid Engine is welcome., • Networking and security. You are confident across networking, TLS and certificate management (public and private), IAM, and access control. You have the judgment to work within a client's security and compliance constraints, and you can explain any of it to a non-expert., • Infrastructure as Code. Terraform is a must. Familiarity with other IaC (CloudFormation, Pulumi, Ansible) is a bonus., • Containerization. Docker and Kubernetes are expected. Helm is a strong plus., • Building, not just scripting. You have built and shipped tools that other people depend on, structured and commented for readers who are not you. You;re comfortable in Python and Bash. You treat tests, scanning, and documentation as part of shipping., • Workflow fluency. You understand how a workflow engine runs against remote compute, storage, and container runtimes., • Client-facing instinct. You can run technical onboarding and pre-sales, elicit real requirements, navigate ambiguity, and stay credible with both scientists and DevOps engineers., • Self-sufficient, and a natural sharer. You research your own way out of unfamiliar problems, and you take real satisfaction in explaining what you have learned so the whole team levels up., • Grit in the face of adversity. When things are difficult you are motivated to work harder, dig deeper, and find the right answer, not the easy one., • Bringing people together. When there is disagreement on the approach, you look past the surface-level differences to find the shared goal underneath, and shape a path forward that everyone can stand behind., • Life sciences, bioinformatics, or scientific computing background., • Technical pre-sales experience., • Nextflow experience., • Startup experience. AI is woven through how Seqera operates. Software, infrastructure, testing, and documentation all move faster because we put strong AI tooling in the hands of skilled people, and you will have multiple vendors and models to draw on. This is a deliberately AI-forward environment, and doing well here means bringing real fluency with these tools and the judgment to direct them. The Professional Services team is firmly pro-AI, and equally firm that a person owns the outcome. An agent can draft Terraform, scripts, runbooks, and diagrams in moments, and we make good use of that. The part that matters is what you do next: you review it critically, picture how a less technical consumer will read and run it, adjust it so it holds up in their hands, and support it after release. We treat the people who consume our work as first-class, and we value the judgment to get that right over the speed of a first draft. • Flexible working hours., • International working environment with more than 25 nationalities., • Passionate & talented team., • Continuous skills development., • Team retreats and bonding activities., • A culture where your opinion is valued and your decisions have a real impact on the industry., • Excitement of a fast-growing startup in a constantly changing environment. Great benefits • Time off: 23 days for vacations per year, 3 days given by Seqera in December, and the national/public holidays according to your location., • Equity., • Private health insurance., • Private life insurance., • Ticket Restaurant, with Cobee., • Home office bonus (valued over 1,000 USD)., • Subscription to Oliva, Mental Health App., • Learning and development budget per year (1,000 USD). #J-18808-Ljbffr

Seqera is on a mission to empower scientists and organizations to solve humanity’s biggest challenges through data-driven science. As the company behind Nextflow and the Seqera Platform, we enable global enterprises, biotech innovators, academic institutions, and public sector organizations to scale complex data workflows with confidence. We’re a global, remote-friendly team with headquarters in Barcelona and colleagues across the US, UK, and beyond. As we continue to grow, we’re strengthening our internal foundations - and that’s where you come in. About the role We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Unified Compute team and take ownership of the application layer that turns computational capability into something our customers can configure, run, and pay for - spanning Seqera Intelligent Compute, its integration with the Seqera Platform, and the metering and billing that sits behind them. This layer is essential to our customer-facing platform's operational success: it determines whether biotech innovators and researchers can set up the compute they need, run their workloads reliably wherever they run them, and see transparent, accurate insight into what they used and what it cost. You will help shape a backend that supports compute environment provisioning across AWS, Azure, GCP, Kubernetes, HPC schedulers and GPU executions; multi-tenant usage tracking and accurate billing computation across cloud and on-prem deployments; and the pay-as-you-go and free-tier onboarding journeys that bring new users onto the platform. The role spans high-impact engineering work - from system architecture design to data modeling, cloud provider integrations, and API development - using JVM technologies (Java, Groovy, Micronaut). You will be empowered to influence our architecture decisions, improve the lifecycle of compute provisioning and billing processes, and collaborate closely with product, platform, and infrastructure teams to deliver world-class engineering outcomes. It is a broad scope, and you will own it end to end, with three engineers alongside you in the team to lean on for the hardest calls. What You'll Do Build and own the integration between Seqera Intelligent Compute and the Seqera Platform. Own Platform compute environments: let customers set up and run compute across AWS, Azure and GCP, Kubernetes, HPC schedulers, and GPU-enabled executions - and handle the ways those backends differ. Build against cloud provider APIs and SDKs, and handle what the real world returns: partial failures, quota and permission errors, provider quirks that leak into the product. Own the billing and pay-as-you-go path - metering usage accurately, keeping usage events and invoices reconcilable, and making the free-user onboarding journey work. Design data models and APIs that stay consistent across services and releases. Make failures legible: turn raw provider and scheduler errors into something a user can act on, and add the tests and observability that make the next incident faster to diagnose. Work directly with the Platform and product teams, and with support on escalations from real customers. Take design decisions within your scope and document the system so it is not dependent on any one person. About you 4+ years building and operating production backend services, with real ownership of at least one. Strong in Java and/or Groovy, with Micronaut, Spring Boot or similar. Real hands-on experience with a major cloud provider's API - provisioning and managing resources programmatically, not just deploying to it. Have worked with Kubernetes as somewhere workloads actually run. You care about correctness. Ideally you have worked on billing, metering or other systems where wrong data has consequences - and if not, you bring the same rigour to data integrity anyway. Comfortable designing REST APIs and data models, and keeping integrations working across versions and failures. Have been accountable for something customer-facing in production. Comfortable inheriting a system, asking questions, and writing down what was never documented. Comfortable with ambiguity - you develop hypotheses with limited information, drive work independently, and reach out early to stay unblocked. We use AI every day and expect engineers to use it extensively. You do not need to be an expert, but you must be genuinely open to it. Nice to have: Multiple clouds - hands-on across two or more of AWS, Azure, GCP. HPC and batch schedulers (Slurm, LSF, PBS, AWS Batch, Google Batch, Azure Batch). GPU workloads and GPU-enabled provisioning. Usage-based billing or monetization platforms (Metronome, Stripe) and pay-as-you-go pricing. Self-serve or free-tier product work: signup funnels, usage limits, conversion. Bioinformatics, Nextflow, or scientific computing background. Observability tooling (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK) and CI/CD ownership. Some frontend exposure (Angular). Open-source contributions Great benefits Time off: 23 days for vacations per year, 3 days given by Seqera in December, and the national/public holidays according to your location.
