The role We are seeking a reliable, driven and hardworking Kitchen Assistant to join our team on a part time basis. As a Kitchen Assistant, you will play a crucial role in assisting in food preparation, maintaining cleanliness and organization and dealing with ad hoc tasks in the kitchen. This role is ideal for someone with a passion for the restaurant and culinary industry as well as those that enjoy working in a fast paced environment striving to create high quality food in a takeaway market setting (located on the world famous Columbia Road during the weekly Flower Market). This is also a role where we would be open to developing your knowledge of the operations with a view to take on more responsibility as we grow. Responsibilities: - Assist the kitchen staff in food preparation, including chopping vegetables, preparing ingredients, and assembling dishes for customers. - Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards in the kitchen, including washing dishes, utensils, and equipment - Ensure all work areas are kept clean and organized throughout the shift - Empty trash bins regularly and dispose of waste properly as guided - Assist with receiving and storing deliveries - Follow all health and safety regulations and guidelines - Collaborate with the kitchen team to ensure smooth operations Qualifications: - Previous experience working in a kitchen or hospitality setting is preferred - Basic knowledge of food preparation techniques is a plus - Strong attention to detail and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment - Excellent communication skills and ability to work well within a team - Ability to follow instructions and adhere to standard operating procedures - Physical stamina to stand for long periods of time and lift heavy objects when necessary If you are passionate about food, enjoy working in a dynamic kitchen environment, and have a strong work ethic, we encourage you to apply for this position. About the Role: We are looking for a reliable and proactive Kitchen Porter to join our tight-knit kitchen team. In this role, you’ll play a vital part in maintaining a clean, organised, and efficient kitchen environment. You must take ownership of your responsibilities, be extremely neat and well-organised, and have a genuine interest in supporting the kitchen team with basic food prep tasks. Key Responsibilities: Maintain cleanliness and hygiene across all kitchen areas, including equipment, surfaces, and floors Take full accountability for dishwashing, cleaning schedules, and waste management Ensure all kitchen tools and equipment are properly stored and ready for use Assist chefs with basic food preparation tasks when required Keep the kitchen stocked with clean utensils, crockery, and cookware Monitor cleaning supplies and communicate any stock needs Help maintain a smooth and efficient kitchen operation during busy periods What We’re Looking For: Highly organised and detail-oriented with a strong sense of cleanliness Reliable and accountable – you take pride in your work and ownership of your tasks Willingness to support the team beyond core duties, including food prep and general kitchen help Ability to work independently and as part of a small, close-knit team Previous experience in a kitchen environment is preferred but not essential Why Join Us? We are looking for chefs and waiting staff, preferably with experience in similar roles. We need people who are energetic and keen to learn, who can deliver great food and service to our wonderful customers! If you're a chef you'll be cooking with some great produce; and if you're working front of house, you'll be serving hot and cold drinks, taking orders and payments as well as having some fun along the way!
