We are looking for a Support Worker & Carer for a disabled teenager for waking nights and days shifts. 2 Waking nights (13hrs) and 2 day shifts (7- 8 hours) per week. Full time hours 37.5hrs minimum and sometimes more hours. £16 per hour - £15 during 3 month training. Please read the full ad before applying. Please initiate conversation with a brief explaination of your interest. Experience with autism and disability required. About the young Person: The teenager is a friendly, non verbal, very autistic young man with severe epilepsy, a movement disorder and additional health needs. He can walk only with support. He needs help with all elements of his daily life. He has 24 hour 1:1 support and for some activities 2:1 support (eg. when visiting the pool, special needs bike club, visiting the park, going to shops and occasionally cafes and pub lunch). During all activities (even while walking) he needs full support at all times. His health conditions can lead to him spending extended time in hospital. So we are seeking someone who can be fun but is also very patient as his time in hospital can be much more taxing and he will need much more support and care there. His amazing team care for him and organise his daily activities both in the community as well as home. They keep his environment clean and tidy and help with his considerable amount of laundry. The team also accompany him on holidays. They make sure that he can enjoy his live as much as possible. The team around him meet regularly with the ABA consultant to discuss his care and behaviour plan. They also meet to discuss what works well within the team or to discuss concerns the family has. About you and the responsibilities of the position: You would need to be fit and strong to give him appropriate support. We are looking for someone who is truly interested in special needs and autism and ideally has studied something related or is still studying (eg psychology, nursing, health and social care etc). Ideally you already have some experience. You are someone who is not afraid to learn care elements like catheterisation and dealing with PEG and Peristeen and dealing with medications. (best research those before we discuss the position further). You need to be able to deliver care with dignity. The behaviour plan (ABA) would be explained to you and you would be required to attend the team meetings with our ABA Consultant and the rest of the experienced team. All training is delivered by shadowing with an experienced team member. Being able to go to the pool with him (only the shallow part of the pool) is a requirement - so ideally only swimmers apply. The Job involves two waking night shifts and two day shifts per week and sometimes you would be expected to cover for colleagues too (so more shifts when colleagues are away - they will cover for you as well when you have holidays). The position would require you to work some weekends and some bank holidays (shared with the team). If you prefer to work every weekend and have days off during the week - please let us know. Team members will cover for each other if anyone is on holiday or ill. The family will also need cover over the Christmas period (not all days required) and or new Year, Easter as well as some extra time in Summer. We are looking for someone who is fair with the rest of the team and the family on how they take time off and how they cover for colleagues. But most importantly the right candidate will need to be a bit flexible and helpful. In turn there will be flexibility around days worked to accommodate studies or other commitments. About the position: This position includes day shifts as well as waking night shifts. Strictly waking nights. This has to be your only job. This is an opportunity to learn a lot and also to have a fulfilling job and working with a nice team. It is a household with a friendly dog. Only non-smokers & non vapers apply! Applicants need commit to 12 months minimum. Some weekends will need to be covered and bank holidays will be shared within the team. This position could be done on a self employed basis with an UTR number. You are ideally based in north London. Full time: 37.5 - 40+ hours (more hours when covering for colleagues who are on holiday or ill). £16 per hour (£15 during training, which lasts for 3-6 months). All bank holidays are paid at double rate. Please include your CV and write a short cover letter in your own words to let us know why this position is interesting to you. You need an enhanced DBS. Later on we need 2 relevant professional references. Please when you first contact us add a few sentences why you are interested and a cover letter later-on and if you like the cover letter to be different from the other 80 applicants please write it without AI (It is so boring to read the same cover letter 80 times... please!) If all of the above sounds good to you then we would like to hear from you. Thank you. Job Types: Full-time, Permanent, Fixed term contract, Freelance with a UTR number, Zero hours contract Contract length: 12 months and longer
