About Land Wide UK Ltd
Land Wide UK Ltd (LWUK) is a growing specialist subcontractor delivering groundworks, fencing, civil engineering, and renewable energy infrastructure projects across the UK.
We work alongside Tier 1 contractors, principal contractors, and EPCs on commercial, industrial, and major infrastructure schemes including solar farms, BESS developments, substations, and HVDC projects.
As our presence within the UK renewables and infrastructure sectors continues to expand, we are looking to strengthen our commercial team with the appointment of an Estimator / Buyer who can support both tender delivery and procurement activities across a range of projects.
Role Overview
This is a key commercial role combining estimating and procurement responsibilities across multiple live tenders and awarded projects.
The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing competitive and commercially sound tenders whilst managing procurement activities to ensure projects are delivered efficiently, on programme, and within budget.
The role will involve close collaboration with directors, operational teams, suppliers, subcontractors, and clients, and would suit an organised and commercially minded individual looking to grow within a fast-paced and expanding business.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating

  • Review tender enquiries, drawings, specifications, BoQs, and supporting documentation to fully understand project scope and requirements.
  • Carry out quantity take-offs where bills of quantities are not provided.
  • Prepare and issue enquiries to suppliers and subcontractors and assess returned quotations.
  • Build detailed cost estimates including labour, plant, materials, subcontractors, preliminaries, overheads, and margin.
  • Identify commercial risks, opportunities, exclusions, and assumptions within tender submissions.
  • Prepare tender clarifications and qualifications in line with company procedures.
  • Attend pre-tender and post-tender meetings where required.
  • Assist with the handover of secured projects to operational and commercial delivery teams.
  • Buying / Procurement
  • Procure materials, plant, and subcontract packages in line with project budgets and programme requirements.
  • Source competitive quotations and negotiate pricing, lead times, and supply terms.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Raise and manage purchase orders, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery.
  • Monitor supplier and subcontractor performance relating to quality, delivery, and commercial compliance.
  • Support the resolution of invoice queries and supply chain issues alongside the commercial team.

Commercial & General Duties

  • Maintain accurate records of tenders, quotations, procurement schedules, and purchase orders.
  • Assist in developing supplier databases, cost libraries, and standard pricing information.
  • Review subcontract and supplier terms, identifying any commercial or contractual risks.
  • Support value engineering exercises and alternative procurement solutions where appropriate.
  • Promote high standards of health, safety, quality, and environmental compliance throughout the supply chain.
  • Support continuous improvement across estimating and procurement processes.

Person Specification
Essential

  • Previous experience in an estimating, buying, or commercial role within the UK construction, civil engineering, fencing, or renewable energy infrastructure sectors.
  • Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and BoQs and produce accurate cost estimates.
  • Strong understanding of groundworks, civils, fencing, and associated construction activities.
  • Commercial awareness with the ability to identify risk, margin pressure, and contractual issues.
  • Confident communicator with good negotiation skills.
  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Right to work in the UK.

Desirable

  • Experience working on renewable energy or utility infrastructure projects including solar, BESS, substations, or HVDC.
  • Experience working with Tier 1 contractors and EPC contractors.
  • HNC/HND or degree qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or similar.
  • CSCS card.

Personal Attributes

  • Organised and methodical with a proactive approach to workload management.
  • Commercially aware and solution focused.
  • Able to work independently whilst contributing positively within a team environment.
  • Calm and resilient under pressure and capable of meeting tender deadlines.
  • Professional, trustworthy, and discreet with commercially sensitive information.

What We Offer

  • Opportunity to join a growing and ambitious business operating within the UK infrastructure and renewable energy sectors.
  • Exposure to major UK energy and civils projects.
  • £50,000+ salary depending on experience.
  • Company pension scheme.
  • Paid holiday entitlement.
  • Flexibility for occasional home working by agreement.
  • Genuine long-term career progression opportunities as the business continues to grow.
  • Opportunity to help shape and develop the commercial function within the business.
  • Supportive and collaborative working environment.
