About the Opportunity

The Talent Desk is recruiting on behalf of a small residential care home in Coulsdon, providing specialist support to adults with learning disabilities and complex care needs.
The home is committed to delivering high-quality, person-centred care, with an emphasis on dignity, independence, individual choice and helping residents lead fulfilling lives.
We are looking for an experienced and compassionate Team Leader to support the day-to-day running of the home.
This is a hands-on leadership role, combining direct care responsibilities with staff supervision and the coordination of daily operations. The successful candidate will be confident leading a team, managing challenges constructively and maintaining a positive, professional working environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise staff on shift, ensuring high-quality, person-centred care.
  • Oversee daily operations, including staff allocation, routines, activities and care delivery.
  • Provide hands-on support with personal care, medication, appointments and daily living activities, including meal preparation and maintaining a clean environment.
  • Support adults with complex needs, including residents who communicate non-verbally and require full assistance with personal and continence care.
  • Promote dignity, choice, independence, inclusion and positive behaviour support.
  • Ensure care plans, risk assessments and daily records are accurate and up to date.
  • Coordinate and delegate responsibilities effectively, prioritising administrative and management tasks where required.
  • Address staff concerns, manage conflict professionally and maintain appropriate boundaries.
  • Support, mentor and develop staff through supervision and on-the-job guidance.
  • Liaise with families, healthcare professionals and external agencies.
  • Ensure compliance with CQC standards, safeguarding procedures and health and safety requirements.

About You

We are looking for someone who combines practical care experience with strong leadership and organisational skills.
Essential requirements:

  • Previous experience working as a Team Leader, preferably within residential learning disability services. Experience in a nursing home will also be considered.
  • NVQ or Apprenticeship Level 3 in Health and Social Care (or above).
  • Experience supervising staff and coordinating day-to-day care responsibilities.
  • Confidence supporting adults with complex care needs.
  • Strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage conflict, make decisions and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Good understanding of safeguarding, person-centred care and relevant care standards.
  • A compassionate, patient, proactive and professional approach.

Experience with PEG feeding would be beneficial, although training will be provided.
Above all, we are looking for someone who can lead by example, motivate colleagues and contribute to a positive and effective team, while ensuring residents receive consistently high standards of care.

Working Hours

  • 40 hours per week, primarily across five days.
  • Day shifts are generally 8am–4pm or 9am–5pm.
  • The home operates seven days a week, including bank holidays, and the rota may include weekends and bank holidays.
  • Occasional night shifts (8pm–8am) will be required.
  • A fixed rota will be agreed with the successful candidate and will repeat monthly.
  • Paid breaks are included.

What We Offer

  • £14.68 per hour, including paid breaks.
  • A supportive, values-driven management team.
  • Ongoing training and professional development.
  • Opportunities for progression within the organisation.
  • A rewarding leadership opportunity within a small residential care home.
  • The opportunity to make a meaningful difference to the lives of adults with learning disabilities.

Closing date: Wednesday 4 November 2026
