About Kovicas
Kovicas Ltd is an education technology company working with schools across the UK, including leading schools, to support the use of technology and digital learning in education.
We are offering an exciting Unity 3D Game Developer Volunteer Work Experience Programme for aspiring developers who want to develop their technical skills, gain practical experience and build a stronger portfolio.
This opportunity is particularly suited to students, graduates, self-taught developers and people at the beginning of their careers who may have learned Unity or C# but need practical experience to take the next step.
The Opportunity
You will receive guidance and training while gaining practical experience with Unity 3D and C#.
As part of the programme, you will have the opportunity to work on prototype educational games and interactive experiences designed with children and young people in mind.
The programme combines technical development with employability support, giving you the opportunity to strengthen your Unity skills, portfolio, CV and understanding of working within the UK education technology sector.
Depending on the project, you may gain experience in:

  • Unity 3D game development
  • C# scripting
  • Gameplay mechanics and systems
  • UI and user experience
  • Creating engaging, child-friendly digital experiences
  • Educational game concepts
  • Debugging and testing
  • Game development workflows
  • Turning ideas and concepts into working prototypes
  • Building and presenting projects for your portfolio

Free Training & Development
We want this experience to contribute to your longer-term career development.
Participants will receive support including:

  • Free Unity 3D training and guidance
  • One-to-one CV building and tailoring
  • Personalised CV feedback for technology and game-development roles
  • One-to-one career and employability support
  • Portfolio development guidance
  • Advice on how to present Unity projects professionally
  • Practical Unity and C# development experience
  • Regular mentoring and feedback
  • Guidance on professional development workflows
  • Experience within an organisation working with UK schools
  • A reference upon successful completion, where appropriate

Our aim is for you to finish the programme with more than something to add to your CV. We want you to leave with stronger technical skills, practical experience, an improved portfolio and a professionally tailored CV that can support your next career move.
Who We’re Looking For
You do not need to be an experienced professional game developer.
We would particularly like to hear from:

  • University students
  • Recent graduates
  • Junior developers
  • Self-taught programmers
  • Aspiring game developers
  • Career changers with an interest in game development
  • Developers looking to build practical Unity experience

Basic knowledge of Unity 3D and/or C# would be beneficial.
More importantly, we’re looking for someone who is:

  • Willing to learn
  • Creative and enthusiastic
  • Interested in game development
  • Interested in technology and education
  • Comfortable receiving feedback
  • Keen to develop their portfolio and professional skills

Experience developing games for children or schools is not required.
Why Educational Game Development?
Working with technology in education provides a different challenge from conventional game development.
You will have the opportunity to think about how games and interactive technology can make learning more engaging, accessible and enjoyable for children.
As Kovicas works with schools in the UK, this programme can also give you valuable exposure to how technology is developed and considered within an educational environment.
Potential Future Opportunities
This programme is not a guarantee of employment.
However, as Kovicas continues to grow, paid employment or contract opportunities may become available from time to time.
Participants are welcome to apply for suitable paid opportunities if they become available, and experience gained during the programme may help demonstrate their skills.
Any future paid role would be subject to a separate application, selection process and employment or contractor agreement.
Important Information
This is a voluntary, unpaid work-experience and training opportunity focused on learning, skills development, employability and portfolio experience.
It is not advertised as a paid employee position.
The programme includes free training, mentoring, practical development experience and individual career support.
