About Us
STEPOUTINESSEX is a community interest company dedicated to supporting young people’s mental health, wellbeing, and personal development. We provide safe, inclusive, and supportive spaces for young people—particularly those who are neurodivergent or experience anxiety or mental health challenges.
Role Purpose
As a Volunteer Youth Worker, you will help create a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment where young people feel heard, valued, and empowered. You will support group sessions, activities, and informal discussions, helping young people build confidence, social skills, and resilience.
Key Responsibilities
Support the planning and delivery of youth sessions and activities
Create a safe, inclusive, and non-judgemental space for young people
Build positive, respectful relationships with young people
Encourage participation in group activities such as games, arts & crafts, or discussions
Be a positive role model and offer emotional support when needed
Follow safeguarding, health & safety, and CIC policies at all times
Work alongside staff and other volunteers as part of a team
Report any safeguarding or wellbeing concerns appropriately
Skills & Qualities
Friendly, patient, and approachable
Passionate about supporting young people
Good listening and communication skills
Reliable and committed
Understanding of mental health, anxiety, or neurodiversity (desirable but not essential)
Willingness to learn and take part in training
Requirements
Aged 18 or over
Willingness to complete a DBS check (enhanced, if required)
Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
