Head of Research – Legal Executive Search Location: London Salary: £50-70k About the Firm We are working with a distinguished legal executive-search firm, highly regarded for delivering C-suite, partner-level and senior-leadership appointments across top law firms and legal services organisations. The firm is known for its research-driven, discreet approach, strong candidate relationships and deep understanding of the legal market. The Role: As Head of Research you will lead the research function of the firm, driving candidate sourcing and market mapping for senior-level legal mandates. You will shape search strategy, oversee candidate pipelines and support the delivery of high-quality shortlists for the firm’s executive search consultants. Key Responsibilities: • Lead and manage the research team (or build out the research function, depending on structure)., • Conduct comprehensive market mapping and talent-pool analysis across the legal market (private practice firms, in-house legal, regulatory bodies etc.)., • Identify, profile and engage passive and active candidates — including partners, senior lawyers, general counsel, and legal-leadership figures., • Build and maintain detailed “search maps” / candidate pipelines using research and proprietary tools., • Provide market intelligence on firm movements, competitor activity, and sector trends — to inform search strategy and client advice., • Support senior consultants with candidate shortlisting, briefing and preparation for interviews / client presentations., • Maintain high standards of candidate engagement, confidentiality and professional presentation. What We’re Looking For • Prior experience in executive search, ideally within the legal sector or professional services — either as a researcher, researcher-manager or consultant., • Excellent research, mapping, and sourcing skills — ability to proactively identify senior-level talent (often passive)., • Strong understanding of the UK (and preferable global) legal market: firm structures, roles, hierarchies, practice areas, and regulatory context., • Outstanding communication skills — written and verbal — with the gravitas to engage senior legal professionals., • A methodical, organised approach with great attention to detail, discretion, and professionalism., • Ability to work collaboratively with search consultants, manage multiple mandates, and prioritise under pressure.
