We are seeking an experienced Sports Specialist to join our High School Team. The specialist will design and lead engaging activities that promote personal development, academic enrichment, and social-emotional learning for students. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with youth and a talent for creating inclusive and stimulating environments. This is a seasonal position, starting on February 28, 2026, and expected to end on June 13, 2026. Key Responsibilities: Program Development and Implementation: • Plan, organize, and coach a team of students for specific sports: volleyball, soccer, or tennis, • Develop lesson plans that are age-appropriate, culturally responsive, and aligned with DYCD and Global Kids guidelines and standards., • Facilitate activities that encourage teamwork, leadership, and positive social interactions. Student Engagement and Support: • Foster a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for all participants., • Encourage student participation and engagement in all activities. Collaboration and Communication: • Work closely with other staff members, including the Program Director and the Director of Community Schools,, • to ensure a cohesive and integrated program., • Maintain open and effective communication with parents, guardians, and school staff., • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities. Monitoring and Evaluation: • Track and report on student progress and program outcomes., • Conduct regular assessments to evaluate the effectiveness of activities and make necessary adjustments., • Ensure compliance with all DYCD regulations and guidelines. Qualifications: • Education and Experience:, • Minimum of four years of experience working with young people in an educational or recreational setting., • Minimum of two years of experience in coaching organized competitive sports, particularly in basketball, soccer, or tennis, • Experience in planning and leading activities for diverse groups of students., • Skills and Abilities:, • Strong organizational and time management skills., • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills., • Ability to work collaboratively with a team and independently., • Creativity, enthusiasm, and a commitment to youth development., • Requirements:, • Ability to work 10-15 hours per week, the schedule is as follows., • Most be available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays,, • 4 pm -7 pm, and Saturdays, 9 am- 2 pm, • Successful completion of a background check., • Certification in First Aid and CPR preferred., • Fluency in other languages is a plus (particularly Haitian Creole). Hours/Wages/Benefits: Activity Specialists will be required to work April – June during after-school hours and Saturday mornings, plus additional hours for any required training and preparation. Position is paid at $30-$60 (based on qualifications) for 10-15 hours per week. GK also offers paid vacation time off, personal days, and sick time. Program Description Howie the Harp Advocacy Center (HTH), which is run by professionals who have personal experience with the mental health system, offers an array of services that help individuals with mental health concerns find meaningful, permanent employment and develop careers, primarily in human services. All HTH programs are based on the core values of self-determination and peer expertise. Through the Comprehensive Peer Training Program, Assisted Competitive Employment Program (ACE), and other initiatives, the Academy offers a wide range of services including training, internship experience, job placement and support, and continuing education services. Position Overview The Peer Trainer will develop and offer a series of workshops designed to help peer specialists learn about different specialties in peer work and practice the skills that different roles would require. This would help better prepare those who are interested in working with people who are experiencing mental health crises in a variety of settings such as: mobile crisis response teams; in hospitals; in crisis respite residences; street outreach; or on Intensive Mobile Treatment or Assertive Community Treatment Teams (IMT/ACT), and Intensive and Sustained Engagement Team (INSET) which often work with people with higher needs who may frequently be in crisis. The target populations for these trainings would be those enrolled in our Howie the Harp peer training program as well as for people already working in the peer field who would like to explore different types of jobs or hone skills in their current areas of practice. Key Performance Indicators • Develops and annually updates a curriculum of relevant trainings and workshops that cover the latest developments in NYC crisis response services and their best practices., • Conduct trainings as scheduled., • Group notes are completed within 48 business hours of the class meeting.
