Job Description Housing Specialist – Carpenter House Salary: $33,670 - $37,850 Transform Lives - Lead Change - Join Project Hospitality Are you passionate about addressing homelessness in New York City? Project Hospitality, the largest not-for-profit on Staten Island, is seeking a dynamic Housing Specialist to join Carpenter House, our Department of Homeless Service adult shelter. In this critical role, you’ll be a key member who aids in the smooth and efficient daily operations of the shelter. This role helps our clients to be able to make that next step in becoming housing ready as you help them to complete housing applications, view possible housing options and eventually move into their next level of permanent housing. We’re looking for someone who can: • Thrive in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment, • Utilize their excellent interpersonal skills to ensure that all our clients are treated with warmth, compassion and respect, • Use their excellent communication skills not only with our clients and other visitors to the shelter but also with our diverse team, • Multitask without becoming overwhelmed What we’ll expect you to do: • Be responsible for advocacy and providing assistance to clients in obtaining permanent housing, • Make referrals to special housing agencies and assist in the completion of housing applications including Section 8 and NY/NY paperwork, • Meet with clients on a regular basis to develop strategies to meet their housing needs, • Coordinate permanent housing searches, • Conduct housing workshops for the clients in order that they might become housing ready, • Escort clients to view apartments and meet prospective landlords and real estate brokers, • Attend weekly resident meetings for case conference purposes, • Submit all monthly reporting in a timely manner.
