Required Years of Experience 1 year Job Details Title: Guest-Facing Sushi Chef – Te No Te | Handroll Counter Te No Te is hiring a Guest-Facing Sushi Chef for a small Japanese handroll, snacks, and drinks concept in NYC. The menu centers on open-faced temaki, Japanese snacks, sake, shochu-based drinks, mocktails, tea, and a warm, focused guest experience. This role is not a hidden back-of-house sushi position and it is not formal omakase counter service. It sits in between: clean technique, warm guest interaction, organized station work, and approachable explanations for guests. This is a strong fit for someone with sushi, handroll, raw seafood, Japanese restaurant, counter-service, or guest-facing chef experience who wants to be part of a small opening team. What you’ll do Prepare and serve open-faced temaki and related sushi/seafood items Work cleanly and confidently in front of guests Maintain organized mise en place, product handling, sanitation, and station setup Explain menu items and ingredients in a clear, approachable way Support guest flow, pacing, setup, cleaning, receiving, and service needs Cross-train and help outside one narrow station as the opening team builds systems Who we’re looking for Professional sushi, seafood, handroll, Japanese restaurant, or counter-service experience Comfortable working directly in front of guests Warm, calm, clean, and organized Able to work independently in a small team Flexible during an opening environment Available full-time or at least 4 shifts per week Evening and weekend availability required Compensation $11.35/hr plus tips. Paid training provided. Sushi Chef shifts have a minimum floor of $150 per shift for four weeks after opening. Schedule Full-time Wednesday - Sunday. Evening and weekend availability required.
