About Commonplace Since launching in March 2024, Commonplace has grown from a niche marketplace (Trade My Stuff) into a national platform serving thousands of buyers and sellers moving high-value fitness and wellness equipment. We’ve been featured in the Wall Street Journal, TechCrunch, New York Post, Financial Times, and CNBC. Commonplace is a startup that powers the full resale experience for bulky items: discovery, payments, logistics, and customer protection. We replace ghosting, spammy messages, unsafe meetups, and DIY hauling with a trusted, retail-like experience. About the Role We’re looking for someone who loves telling stories, making videos, and genuinely loves social media strategy to create and post founder-led, behind-the-scenes, storytelling videos to our social channels. You’ll collaborate closely with the Chief Growth Officer to manage content & social strategy, planning, scripting, filming, editing, and posting. Responsibilities • Plan weekly social content (formats, hooks, angles, platforms), • Develop content ideas and storylines aligned with Commonplace’s brand and growth goals, • Script and storyboard short-form videos, • Film in-office and on-location in NYC (2–3 days/week), • Edit social-first videos with strong pacing and emotional clarity, • Post 2-3 short-form videos per week (30-90s) on Instagram, TikTok, and YT Shorts, • Learn from post performance and iterate (what worked, what didn’t, why), • Collaborate closely with founders and growth on narrative and execution, • Cinematic vlogs, mini trailers, and serialized content Who You Are • You love creating short-form content videos and telling stories, • You enjoy thinking about hooks, pacing, and why people keep watching, • You combine creative strategic thinking and taste Required Skills & Experience • 2+ years of experience planning, filming, editing, and posting social videos, • Track record of one social account (personal or brand) that you’ve managed and grown organically, • Strong grasp of short-form storytelling and social formats, • Understanding of basic cinematography (light, framing, movement), • Ability to edit with restraint and intention, • Own a camera, lighting, and audio gear preferred, • Comfortable receiving feedback and moving fast, • Background in journalism, content marketing, social media, or filmmaking a plus What We Offer • Compensation: $25/hour (~20 hours/week), • Opportunity to tell the story of a startup and grow our social accounts, • High creative trust and ownership, • A tight-knit, early-stage team where everyone had momentum, autonomy, and room to experiment., • Opportunity to grow into a full-time role
