The Boy's Club of New York is hiring Camp Counselor's for their sleep-away summer camp in Harriman State Park!

Camp Counselor Position Summary:

  • As a Counselor & Activity Counselor, you are part of a dynamic team at the heart of camp life, creating an environment where campers feel safe, supported, and ready for adventure. Your role is a unique blend of cabin leadership, activity facilitation, and spontaneous fun—because the best camp moments are often the unexpected ones
  • The Cabin Counselor provides 24-hour supervision, mentorship, and care for campers living in a shared cabin environment. Cabins consist of 10–12 campers, grouped by age, and are staffed by two Cabin Counselors per cabin. Counselors are empowered to manage day-to-day camper behavior, uphold Basecamp expectations, and foster a positive cabin culture rooted in BCNY values. Camper safety, respectful conduct, and accountability are non-negotiable.
  • Opportunities are available for staff to receive lifeguard training and earn certification. Performance in this role directly impacts eligibility for future employment with BCNY.
  • Mandatory attendance at full pre-camp staff training (June 22 – July 3) is required to ensure readiness in behavior management, camper supervision, safety protocols, and alignment with camp culture.

Qualifications:

  • Must be able to commit to staying at camp for scheduled weeks (sleep-away camp)
  • We want passionate, energetic, and adventurous individuals who are excited about mentoring young people in a rustic outdoor setting. You’ll be a guide, a role model, and an architect of fun, helping campers find their confidence, build friendships, and discover new skills.
  • No formal education requirements—what matters most is your attitude, willingness to be present, and openness to being challenged. You may find yourself uncomfortable at times, but the growth you’ll experience will be tremendous.
  • Ability to complete a background check and provide required immunizations ( MMR & Poly required)
  • You must be able to work in an outside environment, where you can walk/hike daily, at various grades, elevations, and on uneven terrain, regardless of weather conditions.
  • Must be able to lift 40-50 pounds, and carry and load luggage, tables, chairs, and other program equipment
