Job DescriptionSpecimen Processing Technician (SPT I)Alternate/Related Job Titles: • Specimen Processor, • Laboratory Support Technician, • Position Type: Contract, • Contract Duration: 3 months, • Start: As Soon As Possible, • Pay Rate: $17.20 – $23.00/hr, • Schedule: Wednesday–Sunday, • Shift Hours: 5:00 PM – 1:30 AM, • Remote Eligible: NoJob SummaryThe Specimen Processing Technician I (SPT I) supports essential laboratory operations by performing specimen accessioning, data entry, presort, centrifugation, aliquoting, and specimen delivery tasks. This is a production-based environment requiring a high degree of accuracy, organization, and adaptability. The SPT I ensures timely specimen processing while maintaining quality standards, safety protocols, and strong communication skills. This job requires the ability to work confidently in a biohazard environment while meeting productivity and turnaround goals.Key Responsibilities, • Perform general support functions such as A-station, presort, specimen pickup/delivery, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting., • Enter data accurately, achieving 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes/hour., • Maintain accuracy, confidence, and timeliness in all specimen processing tasks., • Learn and understand specimen types and related test requirements., • Stay updated on compliance regulations related to test ordering., • Adapt to daily changes in workflow, priorities, and customer demands., • Work effectively in a high-volume production environment with defined quality standards., • Communicate professionally with staff across laboratory departments., • Maintain a clean, safe workstation and follow safety and compliance policies., • Support weekend, holiday, on-call, and overtime needs based on staffing requirements., • Sit or stand for extended periods while working in a biohazard environment.Required Experience, • No prior experience required., • Previous laboratory experience preferred., • Experience in production environments preferred., • Medical or clinical background helpful, including medical terminology.Required Education, • High school diploma or equivalent required., • Basic computer skills required; familiarity with laboratory testing preferred.Required Skills, • Ability to perform fast, accurate data entry., • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills., • Ability to adapt to daily operational changes., • Strong interpersonal and communication skills., • Ability to follow safety regulations and compliance procedures.Preferred Skills, • Experience in laboratory specimen processing or hospital lab operations., • Knowledge of medical or clinical terminology., • Productivity-focused mindset in a structured production environment.Additional Notes (Custom Fields), • Site: Quest Diagnostics – 33608 Ortega Hwy, San Juan Capistrano, • COVID vaccination: Not required, • Hospital credentialing: Not required, • Federal contract work: No, • Inventory/equipment capital: None, • Position added due to increased headcount needsBenefits, • Medical, Vision, and Dental Insurance Plans, • 401k Retirement FundAbout the CompanyA global leader in diagnostic information services supporting healthier lives.
