Job DescriptionHazMat Technicians execute field operations involving biological, chemical, and environmental hazards. You perform remediation, decontamination, waste handling, neutralization, and site restoration under direct supervision of a Crew Chief. The role requires strict adherence to safety, PPE, regulatory standards, and documentation procedures. Precision, discipline, and reliability are mandatory. Key Responsibilities Field Remediation & Hazard Control • Perform cleanup and decontamination of trauma, biohazard, chemical, sewage, hoarding, narcotics, and environmental contamination scenes., • Identify, contain, neutralize, and remove hazardous substances using approved chemicals, tools, and SOPs., • Set up and break down decon zones, containment, negative air, and PPE staging as required., • Conduct light demolition (drywall, flooring, fixtures) when directed. Chemical Handling & Testing • Mix, dilute, and apply disinfectants, oxidizers, and neutralizing agents safely and accurately., • Operate sprayers, pumps, metering devices, and application tools., • Perform surface verification using ATP meters, test strips, pH meters, and gas/VOC monitors., • Maintain SDS awareness and follow NFPA/GHS hazard identification. Regulated Waste & Compliance • Package, label, and transport regulated medical waste, hazardous waste, and contaminated materials according to OSHA, EPA, DOT, and DOH requirements., • Maintain chain-of-custody documentation for waste, evidence-sensitive debris, and controlled substances., • Follow all Bloodborne Pathogen, respiratory protection, and HAZWOPER standards. Documentation & Reporting • Capture required photo documentation before/during/after remediation., • Complete digital reports, hazard assessments, chemical logs, PPE logs, and job notes in approved CRM apps., • Report safety issues, exposure risks, or equipment failures immediately. Equipment, Vehicle & Readiness • Clean, disinfect, restock, and reset trucks, tools, and PPE after each assignment., • Maintain accountability for assigned equipment, meters, and respirators., • Perform pre-trip and post-trip readiness checks. Professional Conduct & Customer Service • Represent the company professionally in residential, commercial, institutional, and law enforcement environments., • Communicate respectfully with clients, property managers, law enforcement, and facility teams., • Maintain confidentiality, discretion, and composure in sensitive or distressing scenes. Requirements • Minimum age 23; valid drivers license; clean MVR., • Able to lift 50100 lbs; work 410 hours in full PPE; tolerate heat, odors, and physical demands., • Must pass respirator fit test, medical clearance, background check, and drug screening., • Eligible for unescorted entry into secure facilities (jails, hospitals, airports)., • Experience with tools, construction, restoration, or field labor preferred., • Familiarity with chemical safety, PPE levels, and hazard recognition., • Able to interpret SDS, NFPA 704, GHS labels, and follow SOPs precisely., • Strong communication and high accuracy in documentation., • Certifications preferred (Bloodborne Pathogens, HAZWOPER 24/40, DOT HazMat); training provided., • Comfortable using mobile apps for photos, notes, checklists, and reporting.
