The Human Resources Generalist supports the day-to-day operations of the HR Department and provides a wide range of HR services to staff and management. This role is responsible for employee relations, recruitment and onboarding, benefits administration, compliance, leave management, and training coordination. The HR Generalist ensures that HR practices align with organizational values, comply with federal and California employment laws, and support a positive and equitable workplace culture. Essential Functions An individual in this role must be able to perform the following functions, with or without reasonable accommodation: · Administer and coordinate full-cycle recruitment processes, including job postings, candidate screening, interview scheduling, reference checks, and onboarding · Assist with new hire orientation and ensure completion of required documentation and training · Support employee relations by assisting with investigations, coaching supervisors on progressive discipline, and maintaining accurate documentation · Administer benefits programs including health, dental, vision, life insurance, etc. · Maintain and update employee records in the HRIS system, ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance with recordkeeping requirements · Coordinate employee leaves (FMLA, CFRA, PDL, ADA/FEHA) and ensure compliance with applicable laws · Support performance management including evaluations, goal setting, and corrective action · Monitor compliance with wage and hour laws, posting requirements, and organizational policies · Assist with development and implementation of HR policies and procedures · Coordinate training sessions, staff development initiatives, and compliance trainings (harassment prevention, HIPAA, etc.) · Prepare and maintain HR reports, metrics, and audits as required · Participate in HR projects and initiatives to improve systems, employee engagement, and retention · Respond to general HR inquiries from employees and supervisors in a timely, professional, and confidential manner -On occasion, must be able to reliably travel from our Los Angeles office to satellite offices in Cerritos, Santa Ana and Palmdale. You may perform all elements of this position or identified components, other duties as assigned or required for the purpose of the position or for organizational efficiency and effective client service Requirements: · Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field · Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible HR experience covering employee relations, benefits, and compliance (nonprofit experience preferred) · Knowledge of federal and California labor laws, including FMLA, CFRA, ADA/FEHA, wage and hour, and EEO regulations · Experience using Paylocity HRIS, applicant tracking systems, and Employee Navigator or Ease Benefits Administration systems. · Strong attention to detail and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities · Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to handle confidential information with discretion Preferred Qualifications (Education & Experience) · HR certification (PHR, SPHR, or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP) · Experience in a nonprofit, tribal, or community-based organization · Experience coordinating training or professional development · Familiarity with OSHA, HIPAA, and workplace safety requirements Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Competencies · Comprehensive knowledge of California employment law and HR best practices · Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills with a customer-service orientation · Ability to exercise sound judgment, professionalism, and confidentiality in all interactions · Commitment to equity, inclusion, and the organization’s mission and values · Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment Conditions of Hire · Eligibility to work in the U.S. · Fingerprint clearance and post-offer drug test. · Proof of hepatitis B vaccination and TB screening. · UAII strongly encourages COVID-19 and Influenza vaccinations; in the absence of the recommended vaccinations, employees are required to wear a mask while on company premises.
