Recently we talked to you about Generation Z and how the current working environment is changing (and will change in a few years). They are young people between 18 and 23 years old, but there is another generation that you have surely heard about and that you will be very interested in hiring because they are already in the labor market: millennials.

What are millennials like?

Born between 1980 and 1995 approximately (there are different opinions in this regard with the limits of the generation), and that are already widespread in the world of work and have several years of experience in it. If in the case of Generation Z many of them are still studying, millennials already occupy many jobs and over the years they will occupy the positions of responsibility and leadership.

Keys to hire them

It is important to be clear that the way to look for work and work is changing a lot in the last 10 years, and this generation is what brings part of this change. It is important that as a company you have the definition of this generation, how they behave at work and what they aspire to. Although, obviously, this may vary depending on each person, several general characteristics define them:

  1. Work collectively. They are very social and the fact of working in teams and for projects is an extra motivation for them.
  2. Constant comunication. Although hierarchies still exist in the workplace, there is much more communication between managers and employees. Millennials constantly communicate through their phone (which we all carry on always) and also expect that in their employment. They seek constant feedback on their work, in order to improve.
  3. Adapt to change. It is the first generation that has grown accustomed to having all the information you need within a couple of clicks, they need constant stimuli in their work. They like change and new challenges.
  4. Commitment. They greatly appreciate that the place where they work has a clear business vision and is socially committed.
  5. They are very moved by the fact of continuing to learn and have a stimulating job. Static and repetitive work may not be a good option (ideally) for them.
  6. Mastery of technologies. They were born surrounded by them and dominate them. They adapt very easily to all changes and new devices.

How to combine with the workers I have with millennials?

Combining workers from different generations and with different experiences does not have to be a problem. Just the opposite: it can create very interesting synergies that benefit all employees. Remember that as a company you have to listen to your employees whether they are 20 or 50, because they can both give you new ideas and their personal vision of the business.
