ppIMDEA Materials Institute is a public research organization founded in 2007 by Madrid’s regional government to carry out research of excellence in Material Science and Engineering by attracting talent from all over the world to work in an international and multidisciplinary environment. /p h3Description /h3 pIMDEA Materials is seeking a Research Assistant to support the development and deployment of FAIR data infrastructure within the FAIR‑LAB project, aimed at enabling data‑driven research in additive manufacturing (AM) and X‑ray computed tomography (XCT). /p pThe selected candidate will work closely with data engineers and researchers to bdigitalize experimental workflows /b, structure datasets, and ensure their integration into a FAIR‑compliant data ecosystem. This includes supporting the creation of a centralized repository, implementing metadata standards, and preparing datasets for downstream analytics and AI applications. /p pUnlike a pure data engineering role, this position focuses on bdata preparation, structuring, and FAIR compliance /b, acting as a critical bridge between experimental research and scalable data infrastructure. /p h3Responsibilities /h3 ul liSupport the digitalization of experimental workflows in metal additive manufacturing and XCT, including data collection, structuring, and standardization. /li liAssist in the implementation and population of a FAIR‑compliant data repository, ensuring datasets are properly stored, versioned, and accessible. /li liApply FAIR data principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) to experimental datasets through metadata annotation and validation. /li liSupport the definition and implementation of metadata schemas, ensuring traceability of materials, process parameters, and experimental conditions. /li liAssist in data ingestion and preprocessing pipelines, including cleaning, formatting, and organizing heterogeneous data sources (machine logs, images, simulation outputs, etc.). /li liCollaborate with researchers to translate experimental data into structured digital formats, enabling integration into the FAIR‑LAB data platform. /li liContribute to the development of basic data analysis and AI workflows, including dataset preparation for machine learning models. /li liSupport validation and quality control of datasets to ensure consistency, completeness, and usability. /li /ul h3Requirements /h3 ul liBasic programming skills in Python and familiarity with data‑handling libraries (pandas, NumPy). /li liUnderstanding of data structures, databases (SQL/NoSQL), and file formats (CSV, JSON, HDF5). /li liFamiliarity with machine learning concepts and data preprocessing techniques. /li liInterest or basic knowledge in FAIR data principles or scientific data management. /li liAbility to work with heterogeneous datasets (images, sensor data, logs). /li liStrong attention to detail in data organization, documentation, and validation. /li liAbility to work in a multidisciplinary research environment with engineers and scientists. /li liGood communication skills and proficiency in English. /li /ul h3Mandatory Requirements /h3 ul liAge 16–29 years old, be under 30 years of age at the date of hiring. /li liDegree/qualification according to the requested profile. /li liRegistered as an unemployed job seeker at the employment office within the National Employment System (SEPE) before hiring: /li liNo employment relationship with IMDEA during the six months prior to hiring. /li /ul h3Other Requirements /h3 ul liAt least a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or a related field, or about to complete a Master’s degree. /li liBasic programming skills in Python. /li liKnowledge of data structures and databases (SQL or NoSQL). /li liAbility to work with structured and unstructured data formats (CSV, JSON, etc.). /li liGood level of English (written and spoken). /li /ul h3Negative Requirements (skills not required) /h3 ul liFamiliarity with scientific data management or FAIR principles /li liExperience with data processing libraries (pandas, NumPy) /li liBasic understanding of machine learning workflows /li liExperience working in Linux environments /li liAttention to detail in data organization and documentation /li /ul h3Deadline /h3 pOpen until a suitable candidate is found. /p h3Impact /h3 pThe selected candidate will directly contribute to building the bdata foundation of FAIR‑LAB /b, enabling reproducibility, interoperability, and AI‑driven insights in additive manufacturing and XCT workflows. /p h3Conditions /h3 ul liFull‑time contract for 12 months. /li liAvailability to start in July 2026. /li /ul h3Benefits /h3 pThe working language of the Institute is English.
