As Manager Shipping EMEA (Spain), you are responsible for the end-to-end management of maritime transport activities within the region, including freight contracting, voyage execution, laytime management, and regional freight market intelligence. The role supports third-party (3P) commercial activities and regional supply chain operations by ensuring reliable and cost-effective maritime transport aligned with business requirements. The position reports to the Global Head of Shipping and has direct impact on regional freight cost, service reliability, and operational performance. Main Responsibilities • Lead and develop a regional team (2–3 direct reports)., • Lead regional freight contracting (spot and period charters)., • Manage voyage execution, operational performance, and cost control., • Oversee laytime calculations, demurrage claims, and dispute resolution., • Provide regional freight market intelligence to support commercial and operational decisions., • Support 3P commercial activities through transport structuring and execution., • Work closely with regional Supply Chain and key stakeholders, including Traders, Supply Chain VCs, and Procurement VCs., • Participate in the Global Shipping budgeting process; prepare and manage the regional freight budget., • Ensure compliance with global shipping policies and governance standards., • Drive cost optimization and operational discipline within the region., • Lead and develop a regional team (2–3 direct reports)., • Travel to operations, key ports, and industry forums as required., • Approve regional freight fixtures within delegated authority limits., • Negotiate charter party terms in line with established commercial parameters., • Escalate strategic contracting decisions to the Global Head of Shipping as required. Academic Background • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics, Maritime Studies, Engineering, Economics or related field required., • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain or related discipline preferred. Languages • Spanish and English advanced professional proficiency required., • Additional languages considered an advantage. Experience 5 years of experience in: • Drybulk maritime transportation, freight contracting, voyage management, laytime and demurrage handling., • Ample knowledge of the drybulk market, its fundamentals and players., • Direct international negotiation experience with shipowners and brokers., • Experience managing freight budgets and operating in volatile freight environments required. Skills & Competencies • Strong knowledge of charter party terms and maritime contracts., • Understanding of freight market dynamics and rate structures., • Proficiency in budgeting and cost control., • Advanced Excel and ability to analyze operational and financial data., • Experience with shipping systems or ERP platforms preferred., • Strong negotiation capability., • Clear and structured communication., • Ability to operate under pressure and make sound decisions., • Effective stakeholder management., • Leadership capability and team.
