What You’ll Be Doing: As part of our Community Habilitation team, you will provide personalized, one-on-one support for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, both in the comfort of their homes and out in the community. Your role will be to create a positive, safe environment where individuals can thrive, build essential life skills, and experience a greater sense of independence. You’ll focus on: - Promoting independence in daily life activities like household chores, personal care, learning, and recreational pursuits. - Facilitating meaningful community involvement by helping individuals participate in social, work, and leisure activities. - Providing individualized skills training to support growth in key areas like decision-making, advocacy, and self-expression. - Creating an empowering, positive environment that meets the unique needs of each individual while nurturing their personal aspirations. - Monitoring health and safety to ensure the well-being of those you support, while always following proper guidelines and instructions. This position allows you to directly impact someone’s journey toward greater independence, all while having fun and creating memorable moments along the way! ** The Schedule:** This is a part-time position. The role typically requires flexibility with hours, working between 16-40 hours per week, with shifts starting around 3/4pm and ending around 7/8pm. We currently have some day shifts available but there are no overnight shifts involved in this role. What We’re Looking For: Education: A High School Diploma or GED is preferred. We highly value continued education in fields like Psychology, Social Work, Art Therapy, Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Nursing, or any other related fields. Skills: You should display excellent communication skills (reading, writing, speaking) and have basic technology skills to document observations and monitor progress. Comfort with Daily Living Skills (ADLs): You should feel comfortable assisting individuals with ADLs (activities of daily living) like bathing, dressing, grooming, cooking, and traveling. Training: You must be able to participate in the 5 day NYS Mandated OPWDD initial training during normal business hours (9am-5pm) upon hire. Other Requirements: A tuberculosis test is required before the start date.
