THE OPPORTUNITY Staten Island Justice Center (SIJC) seeks to re-engineer the experience of criminal court in Staten Island, New York, by providing judges and attorneys meaningful alternatives to bail, fines, and jail sentences. Operating out of Richmond County Criminal Court and community-based offices, SIJC is a team of social service providers, court-based resource coordinators, mental health practitioners, compliance specialists, and others who seek to improve the quality of justice. Supervised Release offers an alternative to jail by providing pretrial supervision, case management, and voluntary social services to people charged with misdemeanor and felony offenses, and in so doing, uses an arrest as a window of opportunity to change the direction of a participant’s life, avoiding the harmful effects of incarceration. Program participants are monitored to ensure their appearance at court dates and mandatory programming, and receive referrals to services like job training, drug treatment, and mental health counseling. SIJC seeks Case Managers for the borough’s Supervised Release Program (SRP). Reporting to Supervising Case Managers, Case Managers are the front line of service delivery and key to ensuring that the program meets its mandate. Specifically, Case Managers will supervise SRP participants according to their assigned tier and level; work with participants to identify and address barriers to compliance and court attendance; conduct outreach to participants, court stakeholders, community-based service providers, and collateral contacts; connect participants to appropriate services in the community to support their stabilization, and ensure accurate and timely court reporting on participants’ compliance with program requirements. Accurate and timely data entry is a core responsibility for this position. Additionally, Case Managers will co-facilitate pro-social and psycho-educational groups. BIVO works with 16 – 24 year old at risk youths who are or may have potentially been involved in street violence, community residents, businesses and community-based organizations to implement the Cure Violence Model. The Cure Violence model is a community-based public health approach to preventing gun violence that is replicated in numerous large cities around the country and internationally. This program will focus on a defined area identified as a program service area in Brownsville, Brooklyn for shooting violence within the 73rd Precinct. The program works to prevent gun violence by: 1) mediating conflicts that may end in gun violence, 2) changing the mindset of individuals who are most at risk of being victims or perpetrators of violence, and 3) working closely with a broad coalition of local partners to promote a visible community-wide message that shooting is unacceptable behavior 4) helping organize Brownsville Safety Alliance resource fairs with the 73rd precinct to provide additional support to Brownsville residents. Position: Assistant Program Manager Reports To: Program Manager Location: 1667 Pitkin Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11212 What The Assistant Program Manager Does: The person filling this position is expected, under general direction, to ensure the smooth day-to-day running, coordination and supervision of all program-related staff and services in accordance with all program goals, targets, and performance outcomes and all CAMBA and program policies, procedures, and protocols. Minimum Education/Experience Required: • Bachelor's degree (B. A. or B. S.) and two years of applicable experience in a human services field and/or equivalent experience.
