Job DescriptionSalary: DOE Job Title: Senior HR Generalist Location: Hybrid in Herndon, VA (3 days/week on site) Clearance Required: None Duration: Full-time, Permanent Pay Type: W2 employee Reporting to: Director of Human Resources and Training Management Duties: None Compensation: DOE Position Overview The Senior HR Generalist will serve as a key member of the HR team with responsibility across HR operations, benefits administration, employee relations, and day-to-day HR support. This is a role for someone who understands the value of well-designed systems and workflows, and is equally comfortable rolling up their sleeves to keep essential day-to-day activities running smoothly. Our Senior HR Generalist will be the tactical backbone of the HR function, owning the day-to-day execution of core HR operations with independence, precision, and credibility across our growing organization. This role requires strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to create and improve repeatable processes. Our ideal candidate has deep experience in HR operations, compliance, and benefits administration, and a polished and professional communication style. Essential Functions • Serve as the first HR point of contact for employees and managers, providing timely, accurate guidance grounded in policy, precedent, and sound judgment, escalating to HR Director where necessary., • Own benefits administration, including new hire enrollments, life event changes, open enrollment, vendor/broker/carrier coordination, and employee communication. Coordinate and track benefits compliance notices and required reporting., • With the Director, create and maintain HR SOPs, reference guides, templates, and memos. Ensure repeatable, efficient processes that support scale and consistency., • Manage employee relations matters with discretion and clarity, partnering with HR Director to assess issues and offer solutions that balance fairness, compliance, and company priorities., • Execute HR operational processes, including onboarding, offboarding, employment changes, documentation, and recordkeeping., • Handle day-to-day administrative needs, including drafting communication, coordinating employee recognition and care (e.g., flowers for births, bereavement), and managing HR inbox workflows., • Support payroll by reviewing timesheets, verifying changes, and resolving issues in partnership with Finance., • Maintain accurate employee data in our HRIS; complete data entry, run reports, perform audits, and support system improvements., • Contribute to the continued scaling of HR operations in a growing, multi-state environment., • Support special projects as needed., • Other duties as assigned. Qualifications • 57+ years of professional HR experience, with demonstrated experience in HR operations, benefits administration, and employee relations., • Prior experience supporting a distributed workforce across multiple states, ideally including highly regulated states such as New York, New Jersey, etc. required., • Proven ability to build structure in a growing environment. Must take ownership of your part of the business - processes, systems, and tools., • Prior experience as an administrator of an HRIS, ideally Workday., • GovCon experience preferred., • Strong understanding of employment law and HR compliance fundamentals., • Ability to operate independently, prioritize effectively, and maintain a high standard of accuracy and follow-through. Must be able to execute tasks independently once trained., • Exceptional attention to detail and organization skills., • Professional presence and polished communication skills with the ability to influence and earn trust across all levels of the organization., • Level-headed with sound judgment and demonstrated discretion in handling confidential information., • An appreciation for both the strategic importance of strong HR systems and the necessity of hands-on execution to keep those systems running., • A desire to continue growing and learning new things., • A collaborative, proactive mindset. Good team player. Physical Requirements: The work is generally sedentary and performed in an office or remote setting; however, some travel to government or partner sites may be required.
