Position Summary:We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Nurse Practitioner - Cardiac Cath/EP Lab - Part Time, on call required. Nurse practitioners NP are dedicated to providing quality professional cost effective health care to all patients at NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk. At NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk NPs provide services as a licensed independent practitioner LIP collaborating with a licensed physician fulfilling a broad range of medical services that would otherwise be provided by the physician A NP shall be permitted to provide any service within his/her scope of training/skills outlined in the collaborative agreement between the NP and the collaborating physician that has been approved by the Credentials Committee NPs may provide care for all patients throughout the hospital as permitted by their certification and licensure NPs work collaboratively with the patient's physicians assisting in providing high quality care and a well planned timely discharge NPs provide patient centered care as members of interdisciplinary teams emphasizing evidence based practice and accepted standards of care A NP shall document according to the practices included in the Clinical Documentation Initiative CDI NPs with Registered Nurse First Assistant RNFA documentation working in surgery have the primary responsibility of assisting in surgery A NP working in surgery must have a collaborative agreement with a surgeon A NP working in surgery will also perform surgical functions in other areas of the hospital as needed by the surgeons or the Chief PA A NP on the Trauma Team must have privileges to first assist in surgery experience in emergency medicine and current Advanced Trauma Life Support ATLS documentation or acquire it within six months A NP on the Trauma Team may be required to be on call Job Responsibilities: Assessment and Reassessment of Patients Introduces/identifies self as a nurse practitioner Assists the physician with patient management focusing on quality care and a well planned timely dischargeCommunicates professionally and effectively with the patient #39;s physician and as appropriate consulting physicians case managers nurses and other Hospital staff any patient information that may affect discharge or the patient #39;s hospital coursePerforms initial and ongoing assessment/history and physical examinationAssesses/reassesses patient #39;s condition and care planOrders and interprets tests/results lab radiology ekg etc based on patient needOrders medications and treatmentsDocuments care in the chart in accordance with hospital policies and proceduresFormulates diagnosesFormulates and implements patient care and treatment plans Discusses patient care and treatment plans expectations needs and any other information with physicians nurses case managers and other hospital staff Uses established Long Island Health Network LIHN guidelines if applicableObtains consents for blood/blood product transfusion CAT scan and MRI contrast administration and for procedures performed by the PAInitiates consults with physicians and other hospital staff including those for hospice and palliative careInitiates and participates in care related to end of life issues including Do Not Resuscitate/Intubate DNR DNI and Medical Orders for Life Sustaining Treatment MOLST documentationManages medical/surgical patient care including emergencies requiring BLS/ACLS/PALS if adult or family NPPerforms Trauma assessments/reassessments following ATLS Trauma TeamPerforms peri and intraoperative assessments/reassessmentsPerforms peri and intraprocedure assessments/reassessmentsRounds with physicians and other hospital staffOrders applies reapplies and removes restraintsDocuments in patient chart or the computer all pertinent patient information following departmental and hospital policies and using the CDI attention to detail for approximately seventy five percent of work time for responsibilities such as providing patient care operating and monitoring equipment and recording data in patient charts The ability to walk and stand for approximately seventy five percent of work time and to lift pull push and/or carry items such as equipment weighing up to twenty pounds or patients on stretchers for
