3-year contract Location: Barcelona (hybrid working model) Position overview Vortex f.d.c. is offering a 3-year contract for an experienced Atmospheric Modeling & HPC Engineer to join its technical team working on advanced wind resource modelling projects. The position is technical (non-junior) and focuses on the use, configuration and analysis of numerical atmospheric models in Linux/HPC environments, including large-scale data processing and model validation. The role involves collaboration with internal teams and external technical partners. Your tasks • Installation, compilation and configuration of atmospheric models (WRF and similar), • Running and managing numerical simulations in Linux and HPC environments, • Analysis, validation and comparison of model results using Python, • Handling and processing large scientific datasets (NetCDF / Zarr), • Benchmarking different model configurations and experiments, • Technical support for R&D and operational modelling workflows Your qualifications / experience • Proven experience working with Linux and HPC environments, • Programming experience in C++ and/or Fortran for scientific applications, • Regular use of Python for data analysis and post-processing, • Hands-on experience with WRF or other atmospheric models, • (compilation, configuration and execution), • Background in meteorology and atmospheric dynamics, with practical experience using numerical models, • Professional working proficiency in English Desirable skills • Experience using GitHub for collaborative development, • Scientific publications or technical reports in atmospheric modelling or meteorology, • Knowledge of wind resource modelling, • Experience with other meteorological or CFD models, • Familiarity with HPC optimisation or accelerator-based environments, • Knowledge of Catalan What we offer • 3-year contract, • Competitive salary according to experience, • Position based in Barcelona, with a hybrid working model (approx. 50% remote), • 33 days of holiday per year, • Technically challenging projects in an industrial environment Who we are Vortex f.d.c. is a Barcelona-based company specialised in wind and atmospheric modelling for the renewable energy sector.
