Company Description Ona Therapeutics is a biotech company located in Barcelona (Parc Científic de Barcelona, PCB), focused on developing first-in-class antibody drug conjugates (ADCs) for advanced cancer treatment. By partnering with leading academics and clinicians, we identify novel therapeutic targets from the unique biology of treatment refractory advanced cancer patients, to provide effective new treatments for patients with no remaining alternatives. Scope We are building our finance function in-house and are looking for a Finance Manager to work directly with the CFO as a key partner in shaping and professionalizing the department. This is the first strategic finance hire and will play a central role in establishing the company’s financial infrastructure. The role combines financial control, FP&A, and operational finance, with a strong focus on execution. You will take ownership of day-to-day finance operations, including accounting, reporting, and systems, while progressively implementing scalable processes, internal controls, and tools. Working closely with the CFO, you will contribute to budgeting, forecasting, cash management, and grant tracking, while also supporting decision-making at leadership level. You will interact regularly with the COO, ensuring financial visibility and discipline across the organization. This is a hands-on role for someone who thrives in building environments, takes ownership, and is motivated to grow into a broader leadership position as the function evolves. Role & Responsibilities Accounting & Close (Primary Ownership) Own and run the full day-to-day accounting function, with the objective of progressively bringing activities in-house Lead the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes with a high standard of accuracy and timeliness Take full ownership of accruals, including complex areas such as clinical trial accruals and purchase order accruals Prepare financial statements under Spanish GAAP and support IFRS reporting requirements Establish and implement accounting policies, SOPs, and internal controls from the ground up Build, manage, and develop the accounting function over time (internal and external resources) FP&A & Business Partnering Own the annual budgeting process and periodic reforecasting Prepare and analyze budget vs. actuals, ensuring clear visibility on performance and deviations Deliver regular financial reporting and materials for the CFO Support decision-making through financial analysis, scenario planning, and business insight Partner closely with operational teams, particularly clinical, to ensure accurate planning and cost tracking Cash, Treasury & Runway Management Manage day-to-day banking operations and payment planning Support fundraising processes, including financial data preparation Systems & Process Build-Out Lead the implementation of ERP and finance systems, including accounting and procurement capabilities Design and implement procurement processes, including approval workflows and controls Drive automation and continuous improvement across finance operations Grants, R&D Incentives & Funding Own the financial management of public grants, soft loans, and R&D tax credits Ensure proper tracking, reporting, and compliance with all funding requirements Act as finance lead in the preparation, justification, and optimization of these funding sources Tax, Audit & Compliance Coordinate with external advisors to ensure full compliance across tax filings (VAT, corporate tax, etc.) Lead the audit process (interim and year-end), ensuring a clean and efficient execution Prepare annual accounts and act as the main point of contact for auditors and advisors Payroll & External Coordination Ensure payroll is accurately reflected in financial records, including reconciliation and accounting treatment Oversee payroll outputs produced by external providers, ensuring accuracy and consistency with HR-provided input and financial records. Act as a main point of contact for external accountants, tax advisors, auditors, and other financial partners Qualifications Experience & Background 5–8+ years of experience in finance, covering both accounting and FP&A responsibilities Experience in biotech, life sciences, or R&D-driven environment is preferred or ex Big4 audit firm. Background in a high-growth or scaling company, with exposure to building or transforming finance processes Experience working closely with senior leadership (CFO, CEO, or equivalent) Strong understanding of Spanish GAAP; exposure to IFRS is a plus Technical Expertise Solid accounting foundation, including close processes, accruals, and financial statement preparation Experience managing complex accruals (ideally clinical trials, R&D, or project-based environments) Strong FP&A capabilities, including budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis Familiarity with grants, R&D tax credits, or similar funding mechanisms is a plus Experience with ERP implementation or optimization; comfortable working with finance systems and driving automation NetSuite experience preferred.
